Too soon to tell, but for the moment I feel he's a clear upgrade over Smolinski, especially given our depth on the wings.

Well since we can evaluate his acquisition only on paper so far, I will say that I am slightly disappointed. Strangely however, I am still pretty optimistic he can help us go far

I'm curious to see him play. Only 22 days left. Less even if we get to see him play preseason games

Satisfied with the move to get a big right handed center but I wont know how I feel about him until I watch him play.
If he is better than Smoke (which should not be hard I will be satisfied, but if he plays like Smoke against the Devils every night I will be elated.

He'll probably keep some for the playoffs (like Kovalev) so it will be No soon enough.

He's the best option, since Sundin hasn't emerged from his opium dreams. He'll be fine for this season and then he probably won't be re-signed. That'll give Gainey more time to find a longer term solution and prospects such as Chipchura and Maxwell more time to develop.

Kovalev had some left in the playoffs?

His numbers may look alright but he was definitely nothing special.

But on topic, right now, I'm satisfied with Lang as he fills a vital need. We are three deep in offensive centers, and in case of any injury to Koivu or Pleks, can still ice a good team. We'll have to wait and see how he fits in and plays here.

Slightly disappointed - Havlat was a better option, imo.

Yes, a great second line player. He's a productive player in power play situation.

So you would rather trade for Havlat, pay him $6 million a year and have him sit in the press box all season long because he is too hurt to play like he done for the last 4 years?

NO THANK YOU!!!!

I would take just about anybody over Havlat. Havlat is a great hockey player when he plays and isn't hurt, but when is he not hurt??? He misses 40 games a season because of some little injury. We are a soft team as it is, we don't need a little baby like Havlat.

But the thing is Gainey was looking for a right hand shooter and mostly a centerman.

Gainey did everything to sign Sundin, that loser didn't wanna sign so screw him,I like Lang and it's a 1 year thing so it can't be that bad

I'm VERY satisfied with Lang as the final piece in Gainey's puzzle.

Over the off season we've added:

Tanguay - An elite winger
Laraque - Top 2 or 3 toughguy in the league
Lang - Excellent 3rd line center

Talk about filling holes! We've gotten clear upgrades in almost every major trouble-spot, I can't wait until the season starts.

Our only weak spot remaining would be defense, we cpould definately use one more stud on D. But I still think we're above average there with Marky, Komi and Hamr as top 3, so I'm not too worried.

Well that's true Bob did get what he wanted, Lang is a low risk and will provide some depth but a full season of Havlat would have the same impact as Sundin. Havlat trains in Montreal in the off-season so we would have been pumped, plus the East is not as physical as the West so that reduce the risk on injuries.

Well in the last 2-3 years Sundin compared to Havlat didn't get injured much.Havlat has what 3 years left on his deal? Not sure I would wanna risk that money on a player that is so fragile like Havlat.Great player but not what we need

a full season of Havlat??

How long does that take? about 3 years for him to get to 82 GP.
Havlat gets hurt when there is a gust of wind.
Much happier with Lang.

I meant that I think and hope he'll keep some for the playoffs this year.
