Aaron 'Voorheis' Voros

how do you expect him to factor into the squad this year? in Minny, he got a shot on some scoring lines, played pp and of course, was very physical and would scrap all the time.

how will he be used in NYR?

i expect to see him in the lineup every night on the 4th line.......unlike everyone else, i think sather and renney wouldnt sign someone for 1 million for 3 seasons if they really didnt like what the ysaw of him and expect for him to play most nights for those three seasons......

he provides toughness, speed and someone who will drop the gloves....something this team lacks without orr.....he also provides size....something else this team lacks

voros-betts-orr/rissmiller

thats what i expect to see this year from the 4th line if no one else is signed

I think you guys will like Voros, at least from what I saw of him on the Wild last season. He's a big body, competes hard, and can drop the gloves. He's not a liability on the ice, and while I don't think he'll score at the same pace he did last season because he probably won't get the same ice time, he gets his goals through hard work and can be a strong fourth liner.

Voros vs. Hollweg

Voros should replace Hollweg on the roster (not Avery as some hope), as he's probably more suited to playing on the 4th line. Voros did score 7 goals for the Wild, so he must have better hands than Hollweg, but his +/- was poor so he'll have to prove he can be responsible defensively to earn a regular spot in the lineup.

Although Voros is bigger than Hollweg & just as willing to drop the gloves, he probably isn't as skilled a fighter (not that Hollweg was great, but he was scrappy for his size). Voros usually just goes for a headlock and then simply holds on for dear life.

I think he'll have a shot at a bigger role than a lot of us are anticipating.

I really think Voros was simply Sather trying to land an affordable Sean Avery. His contract is cheap enough that we could have him for a while without worrying about his cap impact if he produces, but also cheap enough that he could be moved at some point for a team looking for a scrappy forward.

Voros actually fights pretty wide open and likes to swing recklessly. That's one of the reasons he gets his butt handed to him so often. He resorts to hugging, like most unskilled fighters, when he realizes he's over matched.

I think he'll have every opportunity to take Hollwegs spot. Thats steady 4th line action. From there he'll have opportunities to get 2nd pp unit and perhaps some extra minutes on some nights. What he does with those opportunities we'll have to see. Hollweg was given those opportunities and he played hard but contributed no scoring and although he was tough, he took bad penalties and he was not a very good fighter.

I think we are all hoping Voros is an upgrade to Hollywood Hollweg.

Alot of people here under estimate Voros's ability. I find it funny, but i cant see him cracking 2nd line unless chemistry and to add size. Then Prucha would take a back seat on the 3rd/4th line.

if callahan plays o n the second line then i think voros, sjostrom and prucha will all fight for that last 3rd line spot with fritsche and dubinsky.....voros would add quite a bit of size and that line would be a pain to play against

I agree. I see him going playing a lot better than people expect, and I see him being a big body in front of the net on the second powerplay unit.

That's a good article, gives some insight into the player. I did not reliaze that he played on the top line in Minny.

Me neither. Plus his play is pretty much exactly what we expected of him.

Crash the net, look for garbage and create space for your linemates. Drop the gloves when needed, etc.

Nice to hear he walked into school with a tin foil Stanley Cup and tortured his hometown natives in Vancouver when we won the cup in 94.

That's friggin hilarious!!

Fantastic article. Must've shed a tear when the Debbies drafted him.

I think people are undevaluing what Voros can bring...especailly to this soft group of forwards....Though not as skilled, He is certainly a better player/contributer then most of the other options...and is one of the few players on the roster then can bring a consistent physical element every night..I think he'll play every night and not just on the 4th line...I think it's under-producers and inconsistent physical players like Prucha, Sjostrom, Rissmiller and a kid or two that will be and should be fighting for the spots on the 4th line and the press box

If he comes in and replaces Hollweg, adds some offense, and fills the annoyance role of Avery minus the bad untimely penalties - I'll be a very very happy man.

Thats a good upgrade IMO.

I'm hoping if the Rangers could bang out 15-20 goals from the fourth line instead of 5 goals like last year you are probably adding 3-5 more wins into the mix. I'm not expecting Voros to score 10 goals, but if he can generate more offense with the Rissmillers, Orrs, Sjostroms, Betts, etc. who's on the fourth line, that could make a difference in their game a bit as well.

I believe Sather has even said as much.

Voros had more points in 55 games last year than Hollweg has in his NHL career. He's not a Hollweg replacement. He WILL see 3rd, possibly 2nd line time depending on how the other "tweener" wingers pan out. Luckily, seems like everyone has zero expectations for the guy, which almost makes him a lock to exceed them.

i agree.....i think he will be a player who moves around a lot in the lineup depending on where he is needed.....good size and a good forechecker plus he drives hard to the net.....he seems like a player who might work well with dubi and fritsche

Even more reason to be excited for this season...Hopefully us Rangers fans will be a happy bunch once this team gels.

It's looking like we'll have more than a few things to be excited about and that already makes me happy.

I love seeing players who grew up wanting to play for this team. Some just say it to get on the fans good side but...I think Voros will have an ear to ear smile the entire time he's here.

Let's GO Blue...

I think Voros is going to become a fan favorite in a relatively short period of time in NY.
