Does Semin look long term or short term. Poor guy can't catch a break.

odds are good he is out for the next game or two.

Not 100% mind you, but I would bet that it's better than even money he won't play.

Giroux and A. Gordon are back up, so that suggests that nobody's healthy from last time. Same w/Helmer for the D, and Varlamov coming up means Johnny [probably] is out as well (he did look pretty sick on Tues.)

Semin, Fedorov, Poti and Fleischmann all didn't skate at the pre-game skate this morning.

What is the actual status of Semin? Just day-to-day or is worse than that? Since he has yet to even skate since the injury happened I'd assume he's out for another few games but does anyone think he can be out a few weeks?

I think it is safe to see it is likely weeks since it was a re-injury and even worse than the first instance. Unless the caps hit a major low streak I'd prefer he comes back when he's healthy for the late winter playoff push.

Yes, I think it's more of a week-to-week basis. The Capitals should look into doing the same thing that the Flyers did with Briere when he re-injured his groin, especially since the Capitals are doing well.

Can someone tell me a timeframe on Johnson's injury? Is he supposed to be back soon?

Thanks

I believe he will be backing up Theodore tonight since Varlamov was sent back down.

So I was bored and calculated (or at least tried) the man-games lost due to injury (and ailing grandparents in Russia) up to this point. Results as follows:

Brashear - 3
Clark - 15
Fedorov - 22
Kozlov - 5
Poti - 14
Erskine - 17
Morrisonn - 6
Semin - 16
Fleischmann - 4
Ovechkin - 2
Green - 13
Schultz - 15
B. Gordon - 1
Fehr - 5
Pothier - 37
Sloan - 5
Theodore - 4
Johnson - 2

Total man-games lost: 186

That's just absurd not even half-way through the season.

We're nowhere near close to a record breaking pace.

I really hope Fedorov isn't developing a Forsberg ankle.

A different viewpoint - including Pothier artificially inflates the # as he wasn't being counted on to begin with. Add in some guys with injuries issues (Clark) or are older players (Federov) and while it's bad I don't think the situation is "absurd". Absurd is the Kings losing 500+ mangames that one year.

I do have to give the Caps a TON of credit though for continuing to play great no matter who is out of the line-up. I think that you have to give a lot of credit to the coaching staff and team's leaders (as well as AO for being such a beast).

Pothier would be in the top 4 this season, so I don't think including him artificially inflates the number by any stretch. When you consider the number and quality of players the Caps have been missing at one point or another, I absolutely think it's fair to call it absurd.

The Caps have dressed something like 34 different players this season, and for one stretch, were without 6 defensemen (Green, Poti, Schultz, Erskine, Pothier, Sloan). There's been a handful of games where they've been missing 8-9 regulars. It's not necessarily the duration of the injuries that's been absurd, it's the quantity at once.

Goalie is the area of question. We'll see how bad that hurts.
It looks like my pickups in goal about 8 weeks ago are paying off.
