Will Halak be traded before the trade deadline ?

Giving our cup contending situation ... If Halak shows up fairly well during the season and a "out of the playoffs" team wants him, would you include him in a package deal for a solid not overaging Top 4 defenseman ?

If Denis proves he can get his game back, he could fill the backup role quite well and mentor Price

Should he or will he be traded ?

Nope, 3 reasons why.

Cheap contract, just a kid and insurance if something happens to Price.

good points to take into consideration

- But if we need to assest a need at the deadline and not touch our core players ... he would be a nice options

He's a good insurance yes it's true, but goaltenders aren't injured alot ... and by the trade deadline we will know how Price stepped up

If it's a move for the CUP , would you do it ? I know I would

Let's say Halak for Jeff Finger ......................

I just don't want another Huet to Wash situation where we wonder "what if" we didn't trade him, could we beat the Flyers etc... Good goalie prospects are rare, especially kids that have decent numbers right away. Look at Poggie, the Leafs got rid of the better kid and kept the dud.

I like Halak, now if he can only bring back the "Doom" mask I'll be happier.

This all depends on Prices play....................If he has a year where he is just dominant and isnt faltering at all.............sure. Price can play 65 games a year and Denis can fill in the rest.....Halak could fetch Bob a good return.

IF Price shows that he's really ready.

IF Halak gets to display his skills to get a decent return.

IF Denis demonstrates that he's ready to come back in the NHL in a backup role.

Maybe.

That's a lot of IFs, but it sounds right.

We would probably have to add a good prospect too since the goalie market doesn't seem to be what it once was anymore.

The demand for goalies and goalie prospects isn't very high, i'd rather trade some of our young defensive prospects before Halak since we are loaded with them.

Like Johnny Drama mentioned, the demand for goalies (especially non starting) aren't very high. You couldn't expect much of a return for him, which is why his name is always thrown in with others in trade proposals and not just by himself.

The problem here is goalies have no trade value at the present time. So, we would only get pennies on the dollar in exchange for Halak. Might as well keep him, situation may turn around in a couple of years

Yes, he will be traded, and it will be for nothing, only to make Nate cry.

I think Halak and Price will be a duo for a couple of years.I doubt Gainey moves him

Agreed, I cannot see us going into the playoffs with Denis as the backup.

Before we go trading Halak... here's something to think about....

week after the trade deadline... Price gets hurt....

then we have a Denis/Desjardins duo for the rest of the year and playoffs...

I can't even go down the depth chart enough to know who would be playing in Hamilton... Missanen called up from the OHL???

KEEP HALAK!!!!

Halak would be just a throw-in in such a deal.

Or, *gasp*, the starter...

I'll join in the gang. And for what it's worth, from what I've seen of both at the NHL level Halak is better than Denis at stopping the puck. Just goes to show that even first round goalies can be hit or miss. Obviously I consider Denis a "miss."

This is a spoooooooooky scenario

lets keep Halak, he have great skills and i trust more a Halak/Denis Tandem than a Denis/Desjardin

Exactly. The market for Halak isn't great, but he's very important to us since he'll be competing for our #1 spot with Price.

Gainey will be picking up a vet Dman mid season or at deadline, but it will be a defensive prospect and/or draft picks that goes back the other way. They are more valuable to most teams and we have more of a surplus.

I like Halak. He and Price will be our temdum for this season and pherhaps years to come. MTL will ryde the hotest one of the two. Price wseem to have first shot at this and Halak waits for his chance.

I've seen a lot of proposals involving Halak going to Edmonton. The Oilers have more than enough young defensemen, so I could see them giving up Smid or Grebeshkov for Halak straight up.

We have more Defensive depth than them, and a better one at that as well.

Bryzgalov got placed on Waivers last year. If a goalie of his stature wasn't interesting anybody last year, and if Huet only fetched us a 2nd rounder..I doubt a Goalie without even a year's experience would bring us something good.

Halak and Price are both here to stay. There are some fools (110%/Jean-Charles) that think Halak will be traded because Denis is not set to spend the whole season in AHL.
Instead of realizing we could have one of the best tandem in the league, something a few teams used to have (Sharks/Anaheim/Minny/Buf), they feel for the local Quebecor boy down in Hamilton.
These guys are such morons its unbelievable they're regulars on TV/Radio.

If we do trade Halak as part of a package, then we'll get a solid veteran goalie back. Even at that, I'm pretty sure Gainey wants to see Halak/Price battle it out for at least 1-2seasons.

I would feel MUCH more secure keeping Halak to back up Price than giving that role to Denis.

I definitely would not trade Halak at this point, due to the fact that he has been a dominating goalie at every level he has played at before the NHL, is still very young and has loads of potential, and we would not get enough value for him at all on the trade market right now.

I agree with what posters have stated above that it would be a better idea to include one of our many d-prospects in a package instead since we will soon have too many knocking at the door.

It's just totally not the year to think about trading him. Let him actually accrue some NHL value first. He's worth almost nothing now. But if he can do a good job over the next year or two pushing Price, that's great. We need him doing that now. In the future, if that means he starts wishing for a starter's role, he'll at least have shown enough to maybe actually bring us something back in a trade. Maybe. But waaaay premature to even be talking about moving him this year.

This is really a trade proposal thread that lacks specific names. Why in hell would the Habs trade Halak? There's no purpose, Denis is no worldbeater as a backup to Price, and a veteran backup received as part of the trade return would eat up cap room. We don't need the "if" BS associated with this meaningless proposal.
