Shanahan to CAR???

With Justin out for almost all season, do you think they should go after Shanny for a replacement??? Caus there is now a huge hole on CAR RW position...

okay, and i seriously doubt Shanny or Carolina have any interest. Williams is the far superior player as of this year, and i don't really know if Shanahan would be enticed to go to Carolina. just my $0.02

It will not happen. Shanahan spent one season in the Hartford/Carolina franchise and whined and complained his way out of town after one of the most productive seasons we've ever had from a forward while being injured most of the year.

He never wanted to be with this team and the team responded by dishing him out of town for Primeau and Coffey.

Why isn't he signed yet?

The guy scored 40 goals not so long ago

Vagrant put it perfectly. There is 0 chance Shanny plays for this organization.

No, he came back from his torn acl just fine. He just tore his achilles and will be out 4-6 months.

Teams that have money to attempt to sign Sundin - will have all that extra cap space to spend it on *somebody* once Sundin decides to retire or sign with the Leafs. I'm guessing Shanahan is waiting for that time.

Holy ****. What a trade for both teams, but especially for the Whalers. I didn't realize they got Primeau, Coffey and a 1st.

As a Rangers fan, two things...

One, he did play on the RW while with us.

Two, the reason he hasn't signed anywhere yet is because he has broken down half way through the season the last two years. And he is very slow.

If it were a situation where you had a wing open on the third or fourth lines, you could use him in a limited role and on the special teams.

But you definitely don't want him in your top six. That said, he brings a lot of intangibles. Great leadership, works with the young guys...

The Rangers probably won't bring him back because one, we don't have the cap room. And two, there is no room on the roster. We wanted to be faster and more anonymous with our offense, we achieved that.

I could see the Hurricanes maybe offering Mark Parrish or Glen Murray a shot at the team, now, especially a few days into camp should Jeff O'Neill or Drayson Bowman not look ready to seize that brass ring.

yea def glen murray a possibility, dont really see a reason whyn ot. theres no way shanahan would. back in the whalers days he pissed and moaned and cryed and ended up getting traded, so i dont think the old time whalers now carolina fans would want him anyways ha

other teams are interested. the moment the Rangers tell Shanny they don't want him, he'll sign with another team.

Everyone here has it 100% wrong. It has nothing to do with other teams not being interested in him, or him waiting for the market to open up, or anything like that. Shanny has gotten more than a fair share of phone calls from other teams, but he has made it 100% clear that he wants to be a Ranger and until they tell him they are moving on he isn't signing anywhere else.

They pretty much already have, NY said that there is a small chance that they will be able to bring Shanny back.

Right, it's his own fault he's unsigned, and he's probably going to take less than he could have made earlier... not that anyone was ever going to throw big money at him

hes been asking for a 4 million $ paycut from the rangers, but they dont have the roster space or the Cap.

You would think the Rangers not having the roster space or cap space for Shanahan (per GongShowHockeyNYR) would be hint enough that the Rangers have moved on.

We got O'neill for a reason. If Lavi and JR can get Samsonov to produce then they can get O'Neill to produce. He will be signed to a one way contract.

Think you're stretching things a bit much there? Quite a difference between Sammy and O'Neill at this point in their careers.

the thing is that Sather and Co. may have not moved on. I have a strong feeling Shanahan will be pulling a Selanne/Niedermayer this year and come back around December, to the Rangers.

They would maybe have to shift a player but Shanny has acknowledged numerous times that he understands he would have to take a lesser role and paycut to be with the Rangers. Shanny is in a position rarely seen in sports today, where for him it isn't about the money and such. He loves NY, he loves the Rangers. His kid goes to school in NY. He has no pressing need to be in the NHL, but at the same time would very much love to. He's willing to wait as long as the Rangers need to establish the state of the team. The Rangers have been in extensive talks with Shanny and his agent recently and I doubt they were talking about anything other than a contract, so I don't know how you could say the Rangers have moved on.
