CBJ Lines

I was wondering what you guys think the lines will be. And more importantly, how much ice time Huselius will get. 5on5, pk, pp?

Nash-Umberger-Huselius
Modin-Brassard-Torres(until Voracek is ready)
Chimera-Peca-Voracek
Murray-Malhotra-Boll

For Husselius' TOI... I'd say he will probably get a look ok the first PP unit,
not sure if he will be on the PK, because I remember our best PKers being Peca, Malhotra, and Nash.

Commodore-Hejda
Tyutin-Klesla
Backman-OKT/Methot/Russell/Rome

The defensive pairings look about right, but I wouldn't bet on those until training camp.

Yessir, we have already experienced rushing our prospects, which some say we are still doing this year so...

It's quite possible.

BTW, quick writeup about Calvert in the Dispatch blog. Thought you might want to see this.

Quote:
-- Winger Matt Calvert has made a huge impression with the Blue Jackets front office. He was phenomenal at development camp and the prospect's tournament. Could be a steal of a fifth-round pick (No. 127) in this year's draft. Look for Calvert to have a huge season with the Brandon Wheat Kings, his second year of major junior.

I'd say it's more in favour of him going to the Dub, Shelf. Portzline and some other folks (wish I remember where I read it...) have said as much.

There are a ton of forwards who are in line for Syracuse, he'd be better off playing on a scoring line with his peers first. In Russia, he didn't play very much, so a season of juniors would allow him to really showcase himself and boost his confidence.

Those lines look good to me....I don't think Filatov will make the team as a starter. One more thing, I know we all have Brassard inked in the lineup but he is still untested at the NHL level and he is not a big guy. I'd keep a close eye on his play in preseason.

I bet Huselius goes 25g 30a, with 18 minutes TOI.

I could tell you what the lines will be, however Hitch will have them shuffled anyway for the 2nd shift of the game, so writing them out is pointless.

I don't think he'll make it based on the roster we have. Most likely he will be playing for Sudbury. I read somewhere that he has heard better things of playing juniors than playing AHL, so he probably just wants to bypass the A. But no one knows right now. He has also said many times that he'll play where we think is best for him.

Personally, I still feel that playing in the AHL is the better route. He's already played against men, Hitch stressed this big time earlier in the summer. Honestly, that gives him an advantage over Voracek. And unless he looks completely lost, he'll be better off playing in a more challenging environment.

I'd rather Filatov play in the A as well, simply because we know for sure he can be called up mid-season if he's tearing it up.

Nobody knows if he goes to Junior, is he locked there all season.

It is difficult. It will be important as Majorov, Filatov, Voráček and Picard will play i the camp. I suppose Filatov will go to AHL or juniors and Majorov to AHL. My roster in the begin of season:

nash - umberger - huselius
modin - brassard - torres
chimera - peca - voráček
murray - malhotra - boll

hejda, klesla
russell, commodore
backman, tollefsen

leclaire

but probably roster in the next part of season can be:

nash - umberger - voráček
modin - brassard - huselius
torres - peca - majorov
chimera - malhotra - boll

hejda, klesla
russell, commodore
tollefsen, methot

leclaire

I'm sure there will be a surprise at camp...there always is. I'm just hoping it isn't an injury to a major cog in the CBJ wheel...

Similar to the above post but I don't see Torres ready to start the season on a scoring line and I think Voiracek will need more time to adjust to the NHL game:

Nash-Umberger-Huselius
Modin-Brassard-Chimera(until Torres proves healthy or Voracek is ready)
Torres-Peca-Boll
Murray-York-Voracek

Extra: Malhotra

I don't like Chimera on the second line at all but with Hitch hinting he's always a possibility because he likes his speed I have to think that Torres won't be ready to play there due to the knee. He could be the extra to start the year or even start in IR if he's not ready. Malhotra or York could play wing.

I think Huselius, Umberger, Nash, Russel and Bachman open up as the top PP unit but Brassard could swap with Russel and allow Huselius to play the point with Bachman. Voracek, Modin, Brassard, Tyutin and Klesla on the 2nd unit with Torres or Chimera jumping in at times.

The PK will be guys like Nash, Modin, Peca, Murray, Malhotra/York, Chimera and Umberger up top with Hejda, Klesla, Tyutin, Commodore manning the back end and OKT if he's in on that particular night. My guess id Nash, Peca, Modin and Malhotra/Chimera getting most of the time up top.

Tyutin-Klesla
Commodore-Hejda
Backman-Russell

extras: OKT & Methot

Rome gets moved at the end of camp or possibly OKT. I think they have more value than Methot. I could also see a guy like Clitsome put some pressue on during camp.

Of course there are always wild cards like Filatov and Plekhanov but they are likely destined for the AHL or Juniors (Filatov) I think. Something also keeps needling me about Alexander Picard...not sure why but for some reason I see him have a great camp and maybe becoming the extra forward or maybe it creates moving two of our D-men (along with Novotny or Malhotra).

Anyway I look at it I like it better than last year at this time but who isn't optimistic? (OK, except Capn, Pluck JF and a few others )

You forgot Tyutin, mt-svk.

I agree with the first line posted by xjarod. Mike York/Jiri Novotny will be first call up/extra man when needed.

Tyutin - Klesla
Hejda - Commodore
Backman - (someone that doesn't have to clear waivers to go to Syracuse)

Leclaire
Norenna
Mason
Lacosta

Yes, Tjutin, my future favourite player with Majorov and I forgot him .

So, new roster:

tjutin, klesla
russell, commodore
backman, hejda

but I am not happy from Backman and Commodore I prefer Methotn before Backman and Tollefsen or buying speed defensman before Commodore. When I imagine Commodore and Backman against speed players it is funny for me .

Yeah I wasn't saying that I prefer the OHL, just that's what I've heard he'd prefer, but I'm still not sure where I want him if he doesn't make the big club. If he's in the A he loses a year of his entry level deal...but he is still available for call-up, which I'm not sure if we would really need, it'd just be a luxury. In the OHL he'll tear it up without a doubt but won't be available, but still retains all 3 years on his contract. It's a tough choice.

I hate it but I just have a horrible feeling he will start there. The reason is we brought in so many new defencemen who are highly touted or make good money, and Hitchcock really likes Rome, Russell, Tollefson imparticular and will hate to leave them out of the lineup. So I think Rusty will start as the 7th, but will get his chance when someone gets hurt or struggled and he will play awesome and work his way back into the lineup, and by the end of the season he will be flying and be one of the teams top defencemen.

It is hard to say for sure though. As the Blog said you have the top 4 of Hejda, Commodore, Backman, and Tjutin; then you have a whole bunch fighting for the last 2 spots on the blueline lineup.
