Wow guys, no need to go overboard just because a player was underwhelming in a scrimmage, the first one of training camp!
If Chipchura plays crappy hockey during pre-season, by all accounts start to panic/write him off then.
I agree with you. I didn't go this year, but I've been several years in a row to Development camp/training camp and Chipchura has NEVER impressed me in this setting. He is the type of player that will only impress you in a game, checking the other team's top line, good smart hockey, winning the key faceoff ... that type of player. In scrimmages the fast, hard shooting, fancy stick handling players always stand out.

As far as I'm concerned, I just stated that I was dissapointing by his performance in this camp. Not saying we should be trading him for a 7th rounder, not saying we should send him packing for a bag of pucks. Just saying that he was disspointing and for sure he was.
As far never be impressed by him, as far as only my point of view is concerned, I've been to every camp he's been in so far and honestly, it is the first time that he was that overpowered, that tentative, and that dissapointing. While he will never be mistaken for a skilled guy who will succeed in skills competition, he should still be looking guy in scrimmages and again, as far as I'm concerned, while not standing out, he never came to anything close as being a disspointment, which he was this weekend.
But we all know it's only a weekend and hope for the best as far as he's concerned. Thing is, even as far as his skating is concerned, seems to have regressed. If he didn't, he didn't improve it while others seemed to have the commitment to be better, bigger and faster. Hope while it didn't show this weekend, that Chipchura committed at becoming a better player.
But he scores 2 tomorrow, plays great PK and he's a candidate for the Selke......you know.....like I said....
I love this quote from Carbo..............“The staff and I were talking after the game and we couldn’t believe what great physical shape these guys are in,” said Guy Carbonneau. “Some guys feel that they could lose their spots on the roster and that led to a higher intensity level.
We have the best group of players and prospects in a long time!!!!!!
Thanks to all who send reports. Don't hold back. Anyone who only reported on prospects but wants to follow up with some impressions of NHL vets would have my gratitude.

Zamboni Driver- wow has he ever improved. His turns are alot sharper and he drives alot faster towards the net. Also drives hard into the corners, shows no fear.
Arena floor sweeper- definitely ready for Hamilton. It looks like his sweeping speed is atleast twice as fast as last year .He was leavin the other floor sweepers in his "dust" .

Most people here are expecting big things from him, so the fact that he did poorly is one of the main reason why people are starting to jump over the board in his case, don't you think ?
Wasn't surprised at all by the poor performance of Kyle "Slowpoke" Chipchura. NHL lock ?! He has the same chance of making the NHL as guys like J.T. Wyman, Olivier Fortier, Shaw Belle, Jonathan Ferland, Ryan Russell and other Career Minor Leaguers...
I will not be surprise at all if he is part of a package deal that will send us a good veteran for the playoffs...
As for the reports, thanks to all the reporters, very nice read. Very Happy to see guys like Ben Maxwell, Max Pacioretty and Brock Trotter doing well.

Your ignorance is shining through.
He has more of a chance of making the NHL than J.T. Wyman since Wyman has not completed one year of AHL. He has more chance of making the NHL than Fortier because Fortier can only go to juniors or the NHL and he's no where near good enoughto make the team out of juniors. He has more of a chance than Jonathan Ferland because Ferland isn't even under contract.

Gimme a break
You didn't understand at all.
What I meant was that Chipchura has the same potential as theses guys. Bottom line, they are all Career Minor Leaguers !! And I know that Ferland is not under contract with the Habs, he signed a contract in Europe, give me a break !!

lmao, right. Chipchura will play a third/fourth line role in the NHL. How you can even debate(unsuccessfully) this is baffling.
I have not yet seen that. What did he proved so far ?! Don't tell me he captained Team Canada junior, or things like this because it doesn't matter what he did before !! If he really wanted the job that badly, he would've worked his ashh off. Until he makes the cut, he is in the same situation as all the other guys.

He worked his ass off, made the team when no one thought that he would. Then they sent him down to work on face-offs.

Weird that you ignore the fact that veterans dont come cheap and a "career AHLer" like you said cannot bring us anything good...

Well, Erika is right on one point on Chipchura that nobody could argue with IMO... He wasn't worth a first rounder.
Maybe we will be able to say it in a couple years but for now, give the guy a break.
Chipchura doesn't have a high offensive upside? Chipchura had two bad/average days at camp? So what?
He showed great things last season and you guys need to realize that we need 3rd line players to be a contender. If he becomes a defensive specialist and a huge leader, it will be worth the pick.

That's two big IF... imo...
Efficient third line players can be found every year at the trade deadline or on the UFA market. Efficient offensive D-Men like Mike Green, not so much.
Anyway. If Chip turns out to be a great third line center, 1st rounder or not, I'll be pleased. But it remains that, IMO, this team can not be successful while having both Lapierre and Chipchura playing center at the same time.

You think that most people here expect big things from Chipchura? Do you mean this year, or overall, cause I can't say I have seen many people ever say he would be more then a 3rd line center, since he was drafted he's had the 3rd line center tag and I don't see what's changed about that. So to me it's hard to expect big things from a guy that his upside is 3rd line center.
Don't get me wrong, to win you need everyone on the team playing their role well, and to me Chipchura is the kind of guy you need come playoff time. He had a decent showing in the NHL last year, in his 2nd season as a pro, and he's won a gold medal at the wjc's and a calder cup where his line was the best line on the team imo.
I can't understand for the life of me why you seem to hate him so much, but reading comments like his potential is that of Wyman, Fortier, Belle, etc.... it makes it hard to take you serious. Some people just seem to have a blind hate for a player so whatever works for you.

Wow, that's a tough statement to make for someone that's had 2 years in the pros, but has lost a full season of development. Granted that may be the case in the future, I think it's premature at this point since it will be a few years before he starts to hit his stride. When dealing with prospects, some take longer then others, doesn't make it a bad thing.

How would you or anyone else know that at this point?
Everytime I hear stuff like this I think of the posters who spent three years bashing A Kost on this board. I won't go looking for names, but I bet a few of the same ones would crop up.
