The player I want the Habs to rent.

First, what is our weakest point ? A left-winger that can complete Koivu pass...

I don't know what we must give up to get him, but if the Kings are out of a playoff spot with the trade deadline coming, getting Robitaille would be a really nice fit.

Robitaille-Koivu-Zednik (clearly improved first scoring line)
Dagenais-Ribeiro-Ryder (talented 2nd scoring line)
Bulis-Juneau-Sundstrom (Really effective checking line)
Langdon-Begin-Ward (Grit, Grit, Grit, Energy!)

Souray-Quintal
Brisebois-Komisarek
Rivet-Markov

Theo
Garon

For sure, I would prefer adding a long-term big, gritty fixture at LW like Oneil or Smyth, but if Gainey is unable to pull the trigger on one of these, I think renting Robitaille would be a really nice addition..

With this lineup, and if Theo gets red-hot in the playoffs we can surprise a lot of people I think..

Robitaille would also bring some must needed leadership !

1st.....The Kings will make the playoffs.

2nd....This pick up makes sense if it is 1995 when Robitaille was a player

No doubt Robitaille was and still is a great player, but he's not a player I think of that will carry you in the playoffs.

Sure, if MTL doesn't have to give up much for him, then pick him up, but I saw let's call up someone from Hamilton and let them progress.

Net crashing, size and toughness is probably what we need if we're to consider aquiring a player to play on the top-2 lines. That's why the Smyth and O'Neill rumors were interesting, although certainly unfounded as I don't see BG dealing the kind of quality prospects it would take to get either one. But a slow, soft and aging sniper is IMO the least we want to bring. And as mentioned above, LA aren't sellers at this point.

Yes, I am all for rebuilding, but keep in mind it's probably the last hockey season in a longtime. I want some cheap short-term fixture so that we can make some winning out of this season without "sacrifié" the future.

Trust me, we would have to add a lot more than Robitaille to take a run at the Cup. Sorry to say, but this team, maybe could steal a series or 2 if Theodore is on his head, but the team is too small and will get banged up and tired over the longhaul of the playoffs.

Yeah true. But if a young, gritty sniper isn't available, and that we take into consideration that there's no hockey next season, he could be really usefull.

Pros

Experience, Leadership
Goal Scoring
Improve the 1st line
Improve the 3rd line
May come cheap if the Kings become sellers

Cons

Not gritty

I say, if the price is right, why not ?

I'm not saying we will win the cup with him.. But trying is surely something that I want to see.

What bring the habs in such a mess is the mentality "The goal this year, is to make the playoff", What ?? I mean, it's hockey, we surely doesnt have the best team in the east, but I've seen a hot Giguere, a hot Vanbiesbrouk leading is team to the stanley cup final, we can't go in the playoffs with "la sensation du devoir accompli ?"

robitaille

id love to see lucky luke wearing a habs jersey... he's been a very talented player in the nhl, and he still can help any team in the nhl right now...

but the kings are close to the playoffs right now (tie in 8th place) so they probably won't try to send a guy that can help them make the playoff

so forget the idea of robitaille coming to mtl

Tell me who's Gritty on the top 3 lines of MTL and don't say Zednik, he may be gritty, but he doesn't scare anyone.

Koivu is but he doesnt scare anyone too, heh !

I'm not trying to tell you that Robitaille is the best we can have.

But he would make us a better team for sure.

Sorry man, but I just don't see it. I'm sure Gainey will make the right decision and he knows that this team is not a cup contender, but at the same time, he knws that playoff revenue is a must.

A hot Theo could lead the Habs to the Cup without rentals of any kind... Robitaille wouldn't make any difference to the team what so ever if Theo was cold. He'd just be a waste of picks as far as I'm concerned.

If we could have him for next to nothing, I think it would be interesting....He would be on top of the world, and might just add some needed offence + experience....but pretty much a low rental.

Good idea though

I'd go with something like:

Ward-Koivu-Zednik
Dagenais-Ribeiro-Ryder
Dackell-Begin-Sundstrom
Bulis-Perreault-Langdon

Interesting.....but I would think we would be wasting Bulis' talent on the 4th line with Mullet man.

Since 1995, Robitaille had 6 season of 20 goals or more (he's going well to do it this year as he already have 16 goals), 4 seasons of 30 or more goals, 4 seasons of 60 or more pts. He's not often injured, his experience is gold. He is not the best winger Koivu would have but I'd like to see him with a habs jersey.

I'd love to see Robitaille on the Habs for the stretch. He'd be great with Saku on line 1. He's not my ideal pickup, but he'd be a fine veteran addition and a nice means of drawing the French media away from the whole Koivu soap opera.

This guy have won the Stanley cup just two years ago and you think he can not help a team to carry on in playoff? Yeah sure it was Detroit and he did only gain 9 points, he is still a good asset for a team in playoff IMO.

I'm sure Robitaillie put that team over the top too. He's just the mucker we've been looking for. Sorry, but this is not the kind of player we need.
