Proposal: Oneill for Kaberle

Kaberle 25 - Canes need offense from the defense in the worst way. Takers?

Rutherford would be psychotic not to jump on that offer.

I'd only do it if we acquired Gonchar and a solid #4 or 5 guy (Carney).

In my opinion, the Leafs really run into trouble when the opposition pressures their defense. I think they have a good six-deep unit, but Kaberle seems to me to be essential to the club. That doesn't mean I think it's a bad proposal (I think it's a fair offer), but does it really address a Leaf need?

I agree - Rutherford would jump at this one, particularly considering the age on his defense.

Good deal for Carolina, they could use a d-man like Kaberle. Don't see why the Leafs would do it though. Aren't they trying to improve their defense, not trade away one of their top players? I guess if they acquired Gonchar and another solid 4th/5th guy it would make sense, but even then...

this trade is fair value-wise but considering toronto's weakness at defense, i doubt that this proposal will materialize

good offer for the canes, i would do it. they need a guy like kaberle in the worst way - and he is young. i think it fits jr's requirements for an oneill trade. would to do it though? i dont know, though i agree its more probable if they had gonchar.

Why would we (being Toronto) make this deal?

To make a questionable defense even more questionable.

Three words: Defense Wins Championships

Toronto's one question mark is their defence, there is no way they'd trade one of their d'men for more offence. It makes no sense.

I think O'Neil can fetch more then just Kaberle...Don't get me wrong Kaberle is a very good D-man but come trade Deadline O'Neil can fetch something like Kaberle + a 1st or Kaberle Stajan type return. It was said (CKAC RADIO) that Carolina wanted Markov and Komiserek for O'Neil from Montreal when they inquired about him!

LOL

Then Carolina will never be able to trade O'Neil.

I thought the same thing about Rangers right before they traded for Jagr. Granted, they didn't move a D for him, but still...

Either way, I think the leafs would be idiots to give up on Kaberle. I know some Leaf fans think that the leafs should trade him because he hasn't won a norris trophy yet or because he doesn't shoot the puck enough. But IMO you don't trade a good young defenseman with his talent. How long did it take Jovanovski to become a consistently great defenseman? Or Sergei Zubov?, etc., etc., ....

if the Leafs land Gonchar then I would seriously question the need for Kaberle given he would see limited PP time. They would have 2 soft D on the left side in the top 4.

I could see the Leafs taking a shot for Hill or Wesley as part of this deal.

If Antropov goes as part of the gonchar deal then Oneill can take his spot.

Go King City!

No way should the Canes do this deal. O'Neill a 27 year old power forward for Kaberle, although talented offensively, no physical game.

I'd take the overall package that O'Neill is.
