Kalinin looks like he couldn't be bothered to try for the entire first period, so far.

lol......he has much more skill and is a much much better skater but he does still have those plays where you say "why?"......IMO i was hoping mara would be brought back nad potter would be given a chance as that would save money and i like potter's lateral movement.....plus he is younger

The first line looks very good so far, although some of the passes are a little too fancy and probably would have been turnovers if this was a regular season game.

PP looks good, aside from not finishing of course

i get that none of ottawas major players are playing in this one, but ill tell ya, this rangers team looks impressive defensively. all 5 men are in the zone, and active, and all 5 men keep with the play through all 3 zones.

ever wondered what renney was talking about with his 5 in the picture preaching? youre seeing it tonight.

Vermette and Volchenkov are playing.

My thoughts so far is.
Wade Redden is a HUGE upgrade for the PP
Gomez-Naslund-Zherdev seems to have chemistry
Petr freaking Nedved looks great.
Kalinin looks like a faster Marek Malik
Sangs has to keep his head up

But it is the only shot to beat that average goalie. In fact I don't think it was weak at all. It was a fairly quick release and well placed. $15 million dollars on the first line couldn't beat Auld in period one so why put down Nedved?

Do be honest, and I know a lot of people constantly pulling for "youth" will disagree, but Petr Nedved was by far one of the most notable players on the ice, period. Nedved was out skating, out hustled, and displayed more potent offensive force than the young kids.

Not bad. Would like to see a bit more in terms of actually putting the puck in the net, but ok. Gomez's line actually looks better than I thought it would. Other lines haven't looked that creative, though Dubinsky still looks good.

However, Dubinsky has to stop trying to cut across the ice after he brings the puck into the zone. I know he's trying to channel Jagr, but he's leaving himself vulnerable to big hits doing that. He did it on Saturday, and did it again tonight. At least he has his head up when he does it, but dammit man, don't injure yourself doing crap like that.

Nothing of note from Anisimov's line.

Sanguinetti looks perhaps a bit nervous, and has been caught pinching a few times, but not in a disastrous way. Looks like he needs to settle down.

Girardi and Redden look solid.

edit: Nedved was only noticeable the first few shifts, and then I didn't notice him at all after that. Good goal and all, but...

agreed on all accounts...

is it just me or is parenteau impressive?....he seems to have great vision and great offensive awareness.......

also, when i heard the rangers wanted to play a more up-tempo game i wasnt quite sure how they would do so while still having a sound defensive system as being good at one normally means the other suffers....after watching the forst couple of pre-season games its amazing how much faster this team has gotten.....the speed up and down the ice is amazing and a lot of these players wont even be on the team.....renney is a genius if he can bring both to the table while still developing his young talent in zherdev, dubinsky, callahan, dawes, girardi, staal.....

bobby sangs and dmitri malik have not looked good so far.

the pp however has looked good. gotta love those point shots. seems like the boys are shooting the puck and moving their feet and passing well so far. im thinking the pp will be solid this season.

anisimov looks large out there even with his slumped over skating style.

nedved still can skate but im always concerned about his marshmallo heart. hes the poster boy for the euro softy posse. plus hes 35. the though of him centering our second line make me queezy.

voros continues to be involved both in the corners and tonite on the score sheet. good for him.

Ummm is it time to bring back #93 to MSG? I think so. He just looks reinvigorated. He is skating so well tonight. Bobby S could have been better from all the amazing things I've heard about him. Top line looks good but Zheredev handles the puck TOO much. Naslund looked decent. Redden was good. And Kalinin was terrible.

i forgot about Parenteau. I liked his 1 hander on the PP to get the puck to his man.

Oh and Nikki Z's hit was bad ass

i really dont like all this jumping for petr nedved because he scored a goal in a preseason game. He looks good. Would you rather have him on the third line or dubinsky?

The next question is he better defensively than Blair Betts? I say no on both.

I'm looking forward to watching this team sans Jagr this year. Nothing against Jags, I love what he did for us, but clearly it was time to move on.

I know this is pre-season, and Heatley & Spezza aren't playing, yadda, yadda, but I'm excited to see the "up-tempo" game.

Quick play. I like it.

Could be a fun year.
