Johnny Mitchell will be playing in today's game

Quote:
Mitchell's inclusion on the NHL roster for training camp represents a reward for a standout season in the AHL last year. The 23-year-old had career highs in goals (20), assists (31), and points (51) for the Marlies last season – as well as the team lead in playoff goals (8).

The timing appears right for the native of Waterloo, Ont., to take the next step into the NHL, and the Leafs underlined it by signing him to a new, two-year contract in July.

"It's always nice when that happens, when you get what I guess is a reward ... and I'm playing in the first exhibition game, so the opportunity is there, but nothing is carved in stone," said the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder.
Johnny is one of those dark horse players I am hoping makes the cut this year.

Schenn and Kulemin make their debuts!!!!

And Tlusty in too. All that's missing is Stralman. Ah well.

I'm actually going to watch this game now.

Do we get credit for this one Mess? Or is it all on Johnny?

Glad to see he's turning heads other than ours.

Its all Barry Trapp for that one. He never made my favourites list heading into the Draft ,as I was too focused on my boy Jeremy Williams, whom was selected shortly after Mitchell. I was sitting at my computer fingers crossed waiting for his name to be called.. However once drafted I followed Michell's progress through Plymouth through to today in hopes he makes the Leafs some day.

Good Story in the Star today about Mitch

NHL door opens for Leafs' Mitchell

When John Mitchell entered the Leafs dressing room for the opening of training camp Friday, his name was among 29 players designated for what could become the team's NHL roster.

While I suspect the euphoria may wear off rather fast. It's rather exciting having so many wild cards/new faces on an NHL team. Interesting not knowing who is going to be playing where for many of the players in the lineup.

Here's my stab at lines for this group:
Tlusty - Stajan - Kulemin
Blake - Moore - Bell
Earl - Mitchell - Boyce
Ondrus- Devereaux - Hollweg

What do you think?

With each passing loss the euphoria of moving closer to Johnny Tavares will help offset that for some of us.

Cheering for the youngsters on the Leafs win or lose has its own built in euphoria factor, now that the vet cleansing process is well under way..

In practise they had

Tlusty - Stajan - Blake
Bell - Mitchell - Devereaux

So I think they may keep those players together.

I read that this morning, nice article. He sounds like he's ready to go.

On Jeremy, outside of Mayers we have no right handed shots on the roster. Does this have any impact on his status? I can't recall a team with such a lack of right handed shooters, very odd.

My first thought was Blake, Bell, Devo, oh crap who is interested in seeing them today.

Then on second thought I said to myself, self these players in the line-up might be there trying to save their own jobs as they're likely the three current vet bubble returning players that are in the biggest jeopardy of losing their jobs to youngsters on the roster this year.

The better Michell, Earl and Boyce play today, and the worse Blake, Bell and Devo perform the better the odds are for more changes ahead. So I turned my frown upside down .

Then after that thought process passed I got all giddy inside at the thought of seeing my boy Kulemin and Schenn in action for their first Leaf games ever.

PS. I hope the bolded lines above are correct.

For the last couple of years I think that only ULF and I were giving John Mitchell a shot. Welcome aboard, guys.
