I didn't see enough of him to be able to make a call. He was definitely better than Labarbera, but I don't think he will get the nod over Ersberg or Bernier.

"Oscar Moller is playing like an NHL player," Murray said. "He's the one guy among the young guys that has absorbed so much information from the start of training camp."

I find it especially heartening that we played split squad and won both games. That the Kids seem to be the ones making plays is only to the good. I like 40 minutes of Quick shutout hockey in KC.

I wish there were some way to get Crusher Boyle with Kopitar as his sheriff and quick-draw dead-eye. Good guy on the draw and a presence always.

If there is anything that Lombardi has gotten right it's second round picks. Simmonds, whoa! Oh, and don't count out Martinez. I hear the first slap on the canvas for Hickey and Lewis though.

Just think if you could Frankenstein up Armstrong with some underachieving skill sack. The man has heart. Ducks fans must be pretty excited.

I am of the opinion that the goal tender's job could go to any one of 5 guys. Labarbera is a slow starter but this may be the wrong year for that. Ersberg might be excellent or a flash in the pan. Can Bernier make his move? No need to rush, but also no need to stiffle. There are positions open and these guys know it. That's across the board.

One night of meaningless games against not the highest quality opposition but still "Break up the Kings"!

Moller was my favorite player selected by Lombardi from the 2007 draft. I hope that he makes it.

To be fair, Lewis was Al Murray's pick. Not Lombardi's

I went to Staples last night. Pre-season games are always lightly attended but that was the smallest crowd I have ever seen at a Kings game. There couldn't have been more than 3000 people there. My entire row was empty as were many others around me (in the 100's). It does not bode well for attendance this season. Those that were there were pretty sluggish. There doesn't seem to be much excitement about the team this year, not that that is surprising.

I would say the team, such that it was, looked ok. Before anyone gets too excited, however, realize that the Coyotes basically iced a junior/minor league squad. The only regular I noticed was Steven Reinprecht. No Doan, Jovanoski, Jokinen, Bryzgolov etc.

Foo Foo-

OK, I'll accept that and also give him Bernier with assists to both Lombardi, (nothing like this happens in a vacuum), and Taylor who's team did the legwork.

True....but so was Bernier.....so he got at least one right.

I still think the Kings should have selected Sanguinetti over Lewis. That would have made the Hickey selection in 2007 superfluous and might have caused Dean to go with Gagner or Voracek last year....but that is the past I guess.

Anyone have a recap of the fights from the Blues game..? Foy vs. Simmonds or King vs. Westgarth?

Kings have no one to blame for the small crowd but themselves. Shame on them for charging full price for a minor league game last night.

True, but they have always charged full price for pre-season games. This crowd was noticeably smaller than in past years. The fact that a LOT of season ticket holders who already paid for the game didn't bother to show up is pretty telling.

Last place team
Pre-season
Phoenix Coyotes
Monday Night Football ("Home Team")
Monday night in general
Beer is now $9 domestic

All of the above are reasons why it was so empty last night. Glad I was there though as it was more exciting than nearly every game last year...we even got to see a Kings player stand up for one of his teammates! Call Ripley's!

I think Hickey will turn into a solid top four defenseman. But I think everyone, including Lombardi, will regret taking him over Alzner.

Gagner would have been a nice 2nd line center to have behind Kopitar. But I guess at that time the Kings were in need desperately of a quality defense prospect and thought highly of Hickey. I think it will take him about 2 seasons in the pros until we start seeing him at his best. He should be a top 3 dman behind Doughty and Johnson.

I might have missed it, but did you write up your thoughts about the game anywhere?

Here's my updates from during the game:

Hey gang... Coming to you live from sprint center . So far, so good. Quick looks really sharp in net. Doughty is clearly the best defenseman on the ice. He's had a couple of end to end rushes and isn't making a lot of mistakes. Simmonds is a beast. Lots of good forechecking and hits early on. Overall though you can tell this is the first game for both teams - lots of rust and small mistakes here and there. Kings killed off all penalties including a 40 second two man advantage. The PK looked solid. PP was sloppy but that isn't a surprise. The ice is horrible.

Sprint Center is a very nice building. Beer is only $7!

The building is only at roughly 55% of capacity.

More later

Teubert... I didn't notice him in the first but man was he doing everything well in the 2nd. Good hitting and solid D. Doughty continues to impress, as does Quick. They kept him in for all of the 2nd. He made several great saves and two spectacular stops with a minute to go.Stoll has impressive speed but his penalties have been poor.

The crowd is about 95% St louis fans. Apparently it's only a 3 hour drive away for them. Still there are a number of kings fans in the crowd. Good show of support all things considered. I forced a kid next to me to start cheering for the Kings. LOL

Jerseys from almost every NHL team are here... Even a couple of Scouts jerseys which were awesome to have a look at up close. Good times so far!

I wish I could tell you more about the shorthanded goal but it came out of nowhere! It was a fluky goal. I'll take it though!
