See how Ivanans has CCM taped up on the left side of his helmet?

So people won't see the brand name.

I that might be the screw less adjustment piece. He's probably taping it so it won't flip out. If he was hiding the name he'd have the front taped too.

You can see the CCM on the front. Has to be another reason.

I have tape on mine so it sticks tighter.

*shrug*

Most likely not tape, but a sticker. As to why? Sometimes it's due to contractual agreements with the league (ie. only NikeBauer can be displayed) sometimes it's to make sure the helmet adjustments don't get messed up.

The current guideline for logo placement on helmets are on the front, not the sides. Pro models ship with only one logo on the front.

That's probably not tape. Most pro stock helmets don't have the logos on the side. I'd imagine it's so that they can put the team logo on there without it looking cluttered, but I don't know the real reason.

Ding ding ding. If you see a pro with tape on the sides, it's probably because he doesn't isn't wearing a ''pro-stock'' helment for that game.

That's exactly it, NHL guidelines state that the manufacturer's logo can only be displayed on the front of the helmet, not the sides like retail models do.

It's fun cause the IIHF is the opposite, you can only have the logos on the side of the helmet and the front must be covered by tape / paint, or as usually is the case, advertisement.

Hopefully someone will add more rules to help add more bull sh** to the game. This must be someone anal retentive idea to add this rule because they don't have a life and they felt that they had to justify their existence on some stupid anal retentive committee.

I'd imagine, as I said before, that it's because a lot of companies put/used to put the logo on the side in the same place as the teams put their logo.

Seriously, though, how could someone have any problem with having less advertising?

To add to this... NHL goalies also only have the manufacturer logo on the front of their masks.

The manufacturers were starting to run away with logo placement and the NHL felt it was cluttering up the helmet so they said 1 logo only. It's a good rule, IMO.

Also,

if players are sponsored (which I doubt is the case with Ivanans) they need to have skates, gloves, pants, helmet and stick of that brand (depending on the sponsorship, but i.e. Crosby wears RBK across the board, A.O. and Koivu wear CCM, some NikeBauer, etc.). Only the visible equipment is required though, which explains why 99% of NHLers wear Jofa (which THC dropped last year to rebrand RBK) protective equipment...

If for some reason Crosby would want to wear a Bauer or Mission helmet, he would need to tape off the logo or brand name...
