Preseason Opener: Florida Vs Calgary - 7pm

The first preseason game of the year has arrived and I'm pretty geeked to be going, although it is only preseason. It seems like this offseason has been the longest ever.

Is anyone else going? Will this televised on Sportsnet or broadcasted on CalgaryFlames.com? Has anyone heard about the lineup for tonight's game?

It will be on CalgaryFlames.com.

Even though it's only pre-season, it's still nice to have Flames hockey back.

Only word I've heard regarding the lineup is that Kiprusoff won't be playing tonight (flu).

Certainly some interesting lines. I like the look of Boyd - Lombo - Borque, should create a lot of offence with that speed. Not so sure about Backlund on the top line, wouldn't be suprised if that didn't last the whole game.

Hopefully the web feed is reasonable. The rookie tournament was pretty weak in that regard and it sounds like the Oilers/Nucks game last night had some pretty bad online feed as well.

In any case, it's just good to have hockey back. Really excited for tonight.

Preview: Backlund to debut on top line

Quote:
Swedish rookie Mikael Backlund is certainly getting an opportunity during the Calgary Flames training camp.

After an impressive week in the Flames prospect camp, which earned him skates with the big club this week, Backlund will play in his first NHL game tonight when the Flames host the Florida Panthers at the Pengrowth Saddledome in exhibition action (7 p.m. The Fan 960).

What's even more impressive is that Backlund will centre two of the Flames top players: Jarome Iginla and Todd Bertuzzi.

"He's a very talented player," said Iginla. "I've heard a lot of things about him as a very skilled player."

Quote:
Backlund, the Flames No. 1 pick in 2007, is a smooth skating player with comse excellent puck skills and has been dubbed the Flames top forward prospect.

"He has stood up well," said head coach Mike Keenan. "Now we want to see him in the games. You want to see him in competition."

Quote:
Most eyes will be on Bertuzzi and Backlund, in fact. It marks Bertuzzi's first game as a Flame since being signed as a free agent this summer.

Iginla is one who thinks Bertuzzi is going to fit in nicely in Calgary.

"He is a big guy. He moves well, though. He is also a good playmaker," said Iginla. "I am really looking forward to playing with both of them."

i like the lines except for the fact that glencross is on the 4th. i know these are written in stone, but id like him to get a shot on the 2nd line with lombo. also really excited to see that 1st line.

I wouldn't worry. GlenX is still above Nystrom, Primeau and Prust on the depth chart, and maybe even Moss unless Moss steps it up.

I am really looking forward to finally see Backlund live in game action, as well as Negrin, Pardy and all the newcomers.

Glencross from all reports was playing with Conroy and they were looking good together. As Conroy isn't playing this game it figures that Glencross would be moved to another line.

Im excited for that pairing... Two offensive Dmen with a good defensive upside. That pairing could sky rocket Phaneufs point totals.

Really looking forward to what could be Anders final game in the uniform he never should have been allowed to wear.

Negrin, Backlund, Pardy, Glencross, Prust, Bourque and the goalies will be the most interesting guys to watch.

And seeing the new and improved Lombardi show off his finishing ability will be a treat.

I'm secretly hoping Backlund doesn't impress enough to make the team. I'd hate to see Lombardi be pushed back down gain.

Finally! Seems like this offseason has taken forever. Looking forward to seeing how Backlund does with the big boys. Definetly is nice to have hockey back.

I think if he does somehow make the team, it'll be something like:

Bert-Langkow-Iggy
Cammy-Backlund-Lombo
Glencross-Conroy-Bourque
Nystrom-Primeau-Boyd/Moss

sucks for Boyd though, but Keenan changes line combinations with no hesitaton so who knows

Next year, with Bertuzzi gone it'll work better.

We'll see I suppose. I doubt we keep both Cammy and Bert next season so there should be room for Boyd, Lombo, and Backlund in the top-6 next season.
