Richards vs Kopitar vs Stastny

Throwing Mike Richards(Phi) into the mix to see what happens since last time no one appreciated that I included Correy Perry.

Richards:born 1985
2007-08 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 73 28 47 75

Kopitar:born 1987
2007-08 Los Angeles Kings NHL 82 32 45 77

Stastny:born 1985
2007-08 Colorado Avalanche NHL 66 24 47 71

A fair comparison this time, no? Who will get the most points this season, now?

I still cast my vote for Stastny, seeing a breakout season, meaning 90+ and I still stick by my claim that he'll break 100.

Kopitar probably has highest offensive upside but Mike Richards is probably best Captain material, maybe a bit more of a franchise guy than Kopitar just because hes North American. Stastny, just solid solid solid, can't really go wrong with any of em.

One thing to note, Richards put up those points with guys like Hartnell, Downie, Upshall, Knuble and when healthy Lupul (switched around almost every game). This year the Flyers top line will be Gagne - Richards - Briere. Add in another year of experience, I think its safe to say that he should be scoring even more this season.

True statement and I agree. However, Stastny was injured for a significant amount of time last year and yet nearly put as much points so him playing a full 82 games should also increase.

Actually Richards missed 9 games last season (and played 7 more games than Stastny).

If Gagne-Richards-Briere becomes a line, and it stays relatively healthy, Richards for me.

If the line does not stay healthy, Kopitar.

Ah too true, however Stastny also had injuries to his line mates Smyth as well. So + the games he missed and consistent line mates he'll increase in production. Plus, usually in the 3rd year, usually, players "break out" and Richards broke out last so I expect Stastny to as well. Hopefully 80+ points, but still good for at least 70.

Maybe we just don't know it but Slovenians make the best captains in the NHL, haven't failed yet

Stastny
Kopitar
Richards

But there is barely a gap between the 3 since Richards has an amazing penalty killing side of him.

Probably this is the one I most agree with, but this is because Richards has a few years on both Stastny and Kopitar, and only now has come close to to either of their even rookie seasons

All homerism aside, this should be Kopitar in a landslide.

Kopitar has the highest offensive upside but for next year it will probably be Stastny

Stastny +170
Kopitar +195
Richards +285

Should probably be around the right lines

Ya, a player who has a 71 points in 66 games and a + 22, playing with injured players and inconsistent line mates is not even close to Kopitar's 77 points in 82 games and - 15.

But, this is "all homerism aside"

Kopitar
Stastny
Richards

Richards is great, but he's more of a defensive guy, while the other two are asked to be the top scorers on their team this year, most likely.
