racism still exists

sorry I couldn't find it in english but let's just say that Jiri Hudler made racist comments to Simon Gamache

I'm not sure what Hudler said as I can't read french but I am surprised that Hudler would make a racist comment as he appears to be a person of mixed ethnic backgrounds himself.

I'm pretty sure he called him a Frog but it's not said in the articles. Racist is a big word, it was probably only childish name calling.

I certainly don't see racism coming to an end. If indeed he called him a Frog, IMO, it is not racism. I agree that it is childish name calling.

There's a good chance a 20 year old in the heat of battle using a language other than his own, uses a racial invective without fully knowing what he's doing. He's a kid, cut him some slack this time, chances are that someone will teach him how and if he crossed a line.

A young player from the Detroit Red Wings organization, Jiri Hudler, (not sure about a ete condamne a une amende) for making racist comments to a Quebec born player, Simon Gamache.
Hudler, 20-years-old, who is playing for the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins, made comments during the game against Milwaukee last Saturday. He was surprised by a call made by the linesman. He was issued a penalty on the play.
Simon Gamache says he has already turned the page on this incident.

My french is slipping real fast here guys, so I did the best translation I could. Someone else probably would have been able to do a much better job than that...

Now I'm a little confused. Does that mean the linesman said it? How does the linesman fit into this then?

Jiri Hudler was fined by the AHL for making racist comments against Quebec born Simon Gamache. He was overheard by a linesman who then proceeded to report him to the Head Ref. The Head Ref gave Hudler a penalty...

O.k then it's not racism if they're all white. What is it then, intolerance? Does it make it better? No it doesn't.
But I'm sure Hudler didn't mean anything really bad by it. It's like when Vaclav Prospal, then playing for Ottawa, kept calling Brisebois a frog on the ice. Sometimes people don't fully know what the things that they're saying means. Being called damn frog is like being call a n-gger for some french folks.

It was not a racial slur, it's an ethnic slur. The guy is French, therefore Caucasian, and "Frog" is a term detrimental to his ethnicity. The term rather than racism is prejudice. Not being picky, but I wish some people wouldn't call it racism. The hate is similar, not quite as bad, but still wrong and mean-spirited. Racism is a similar problem but only refers to people of different skin colour and features.

Maybe the name he used to call him was kinda childish, but I don't think that's what should be penalized, the intention is what should be penalized in that kind of situation. His intentions were probably to hurt Gamache and/or take him away from his game.

I may be wrong but I don`t think he was attacking you personally but the article you were quoting.

This is just stupid there are certain racial and ethnic slurs you just don`t use. But calling a french guy a frog??? c`mon people if a 20 year old can`t call another 20 year old a frog there`s something wrong. You think of all the ethnic and racial slurs out there, if all your being called is a frog consider yourself lucky.

It wasn't racism, but he was being prejudice. The thing is people know that if you call a black person a n*gg... they won't like that, but like if you call and italien a whop, most really don't care. It is who says it and who is hearing it. I think it was in the heat of the game, too bad he had to be a ***** and complain, cause well that is a ***** of a person, but whatever. That is just my opinion, I wouldn't complain if someone called me something I wouldnt really care.

PS, I am not calling him a ***** because he is french and complianed, but just cause he is a ***** for crying about it. If he didn't say anything and a ref or whatever overheard, my bad.

And just to clarify...I don`t think anyone should be going around using ethnic slurs I just think for this to be in the news is alittle much.

As a French Canadian myself, being called a Frog, is indeed a racial slur. I won't add anything more than that. It won't change anything !

We are in the era of political correctness, what do you expect. Make a joke of a guy in a wheelchair and people look at you like you are a totalk *******. I didn't put him in the wheelchair. Anyways people are *****es these days, they feel they have to complain about everything, cause it hurts their feelings.
