Phaneuf vs Burns

Contracts aside which young defenseman would you want on your team going into this year..

A Phaneuf

B Burns.

Take into account

Offensive, Defensive, Physical play, Intangibles.

Burns is a fantastic defenseman, but I have to take Phaneuf. Why? Because I'm a fan first. Phaneuf, as much as I hate him, is one of the most, if not the most, purely entertaining defenseman in the world. The offense, the hitting, the fighting, it's all very fan friendly(especially if you are a Flames fan, ). Just as Crosby might always be the superior hockey player to Ovechkin, I'll still take AO every single time for the pure entertainment value. I like action. Phaneuf, like Ovechkin, is all action.

I think you can guess who I picked. I wonder who will be compared to Phaneuf next year?

Well, should Dion actually win a Norris, I wouldn't put it past some Flames fans to compare him to Orr.

How silly of me, thought maybe Dion had to add a bit more to his sparkling credentials to have a shot.

Despite Burns incredible improvements, Phaneuf as been a total beast since day 1... no one hits like him, The new Scott Stevens reincarnated...(in a way) but with more of a nasty streak with a better physical package.. and most likely a longer stronger offensive production.

Well played, old chap, well played.

You're delirious if you think Phaneuf will touch Orr's level of success, be it statistical or by awards.

Lidstrom's been arguably the best blueliner of the past decade, and I'd still take Orr over him, career-wise.

Have to go with Burns on this one. Phaneuf is one of the most overrated players on these boards.
