Ott - Njd

Since we signed Richardson today, it seems that Schubert has an even higher chance of being traded.

To New Jersey: Alexander Nikulin, Christoph Schubert, OTT 2nd in 2009

To Ottawa: Travis Zajac

Similar to the Zajac for Krajicek and a 3rd thread, Schubert is similar to Krajicek but worth a bit less but we upgrade from a 3rd to a 2nd and give them Nikulin who is a pretty nice prospect who could work well with Gionta (if he stays) in a few years.

We get Zajac who is still on his rookie contract and would work well on our 3rd line or 2nd line.

Roster:

Heatley - Spezza - Winchester
Vermette - Fisher - Alfredsson
Foligno - Zajac - Kelly
Ruutu - Bass - Neil

Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Picard
Smith - Lee

Gerber
Auld

If you want we could throw in Dean McAmmond cause he has basically no shot to make the roster if Winchester sticks.

Why not?

Is it me or does New Jersey have a surprisingly small amount of depth at defence? Schubert could easily step in and be the 3rd or 4th defenceman for New Jersey.

So why would Devil's fans flame this and not the Krajicek and a 3rd for Zajac one?

Just wondering

The trade would only give us garbage in exchange for our second line center. I don't think garbage is what we want to be honest.

The Krajicek one isn't that bad really. Pretty good value actually.

Where is this "garbage" term coming from? Schubert is a very nice 5th/6th defenseman, actually he is very close to Krajicek when it comes down to play. Nikulin will be a great player, nothing exceptional but he will be a solid 2nd line centerman/winger who can chip in a fair amount of points. And even though Ottawa is better, a VAN 3rd doesn't equal an Ottawa 2nd.

Krajicek is a 5th/6th defenseman as well, but I guess Vancouver fan's have everyone convinced he isn't "garbage". And Schubert is 26 and Krajicek is 25 so you can't argue age.

So a 4th defenceman then for two years at 833,000 each. I really think New jersey could use some more physical players, and Schubert would help. The guy was 17th in the league in hits. Sens have Ruutu, Smith, Neil and Fisher so they sure have some to spare.

New Jersey's fine physically. If we traded Zajac for a defenseman, it would be for a definite top 4 puck-moving dman. Schubert's a solid, bottom pairing dman, he's just not what NJ would be looking for if they were to trade Zajac.

I don't know why Schubert wants to play D so much, he's a much better forward.

Ottawa will have to give a better player than Nikulin and NJD doesn't have the depth up front to give Zajac away. Maybe Foligno & Lee for Zajac.

From what I have seen from those two this preseason I wouldn't trade one of them straight up for Zajac

Seriously...what's with these "Let's trade our junk in exchange for a good, young center from NJ" offers?

Give it a rest already will ya...

Terrible, terrible offer.

Everyone seems to think NJ is thin on defence, when they are disgustingly thin down the centre. Awful.

Well, the Devils already have about 4 bottom pairing defensemen, so I can't imagine why we would want another.

Yup. The Devils need top end talent on defense, but there is not a lack of depth. With Holik and Rolston we're okay at center right now, but we couldn't afford to move Zajac.

you trade a potentially 80 points player that earn less than a million a year for a middle range prospect and 6th def...hello

i prefer Shubert than Richardson on defence...

Why is it that all of your proposals seem to be us trading quantity for quality?

I think it would make marginally more sense to replace Schubert with Picard.

Still, it's a poor deal from New Jersey's perspective.
