I completely agree and I didn't mean the situations were identical. I was merely pointing out that fans will believe what they want to believe. The fact of the matter is, the Flyers won't have much leverage when trading away those players.

Agreed on both points. Versteeg was highly unimpressive in his stint in Philly this year. He's probably one of the last guys I'd want us to pursue on the Flyers. Leino, however, would be a nice pickup for around $3.4M, in my opinion. Any more than about $3.7M would probably be too much, but I'm sure someone will go out and offer him $4M+. It'll be an interesting offseason, so we'll just have to see.

Leino is interesting because I could literally see him working on all three lines. He's great at cycling the puck and would do great with the twins or Koivu and Selanne. Even on the third line, him and McMilli have some pretty good speed and could likely provide that depth scoring and satisfactory defensive factor.

I also think Versteeg would work really well with the first line, and possibly okay with McMillan on the third line. But I'd definitely rather go with Leino as well.

Leino is 27 and hasn't scored 20 goals yet.

Why exactly is he going to get 85-90% of the money Blake got for his 40 goal season?

I haven't seen him play much but why exactly is a guy who had his only ok 2nd liner season at age 27 getting that kind of money?

EDIT - This is a serious question - is he topped out, expected to grow, etc?

IMO Both Versteeg and Leino would fit Carlyles system very well. Versteeg would cost less cap and money wise, but we would obviously have to give up assets in order to acquire him while Leino is a FA. Probably not great assets, but assets nonetheless. It comes down to are the assets worth more than an extra 500K or so a year?

Versteeg and Leighton
For
Sutton, Sexton and Ellis and a 3rd.

Clears about $1 million dollars for Philly and they get a prospect in Sexton that may be able to play in the Eastern Conference, they get a 3rd round pick as well as a #6 Dman to replace OD.

i doubt they'd accept that.. the only good piece in there for them is the 3rd..

Ellis is probably an upgrade on Leighton. And, as of right now, we would be trading for Leighton to be our starter - do not like.

Neither, Leighton will be in the minors next year for Philly where he belongs.

Yeah, agree with mighty and bumper. It kind of destroys the purpose for Philly to take on any contracts. Leighton is (goint to be) in the AHL (again), anyway, so it won't make it a difference that Ellis is an upgrade. If they want Versteeg gone, they won't take a contract like Sutton's back. And without him - Sexton + a 3rd is probably not the strongest offer they would get. Besides us probably not being to able to afford it without Sutton going the (or any) other way.

No thanks from me. Losing Sexton and a 3rd to take a downgrade in net isn't worth it. And we could probably get a better forward than Versteeg in free agency, for cheaper.

Today former Ducks prospect David McIntyre was traded from New Jersey to Minnesota for prospect Maxim Noreau.

12-14-08 Ducks traded Brian Sutherby to Dallas for David McIntyre and a conditional 6th round pick.

2-3-09 Ducks traded David McIntyre to New Jersey for Sheldon Brookbank.

If the Bryz signing becomes official the Flyers will go up a bit in my book. Still some iffyness there but glad Bryz is out of the Pacific and good luck to him going forward.

Finally, the Ducks can go back to beating Phoenix 5 times a season, like it should be.

I hope he does well, he had an up and down time here, but gave his all, looks like NHL has passed him by now though.

How does someone get close to double their salary from last year with the year they had?
