I couldn't help but think that we made a mistake with our depth defensemen last year. I think that Mikkelson or Festerling would've been very solid partners with Fowler. We all knew Mara played well with him, of course we ended up dumping everybody to savor Lilja's penalty killing, even though Mara was the meanest defenseman the team had all year.
Mara wasn't mean, he was soft and held back a lot from physical play. Lydman, Sbisa, Beauchemin and even Sutton were meaner than Mara last year.
Mara played well with Fowler for about 10 games then started completely sucking as everyone expected him to. Fowler just made him look far better than he was.
I think Montreal messed his game up worse. Outside of a handful of games in 2009-10 he just wasn't effective here, he gave no reason for Carlyle to play him.

Exactly... It's not like he was an amazing player loaded with potential when he came over here. Murray took a risk and chipchura didn't take advantage of his chance.
We always say someone was put in Carlyle's "doghouse". Yet, all those players suck. They aren't in anyone's "doghouse", they just arent good enough to be played even a small amount of minutes.
Chipchura: To describe why he wasnt played...He was as dumb as R2 without the size, talent, or speed.
Carter: Just not good. Better than Chipchura though.

I was surprised a few months back when I was in Lake Tekapo to find an open air, full sized rink just a parking lot away from the lake. Very neat. Taking a trip to New Zealand and play hockey? Yes, please!
Good for Razor. And I really wish we had Eminger to play with Fowler. I had always thought he was very solid at the end of the year for us. Unfortunately the inconsistency from the year as a whole got him sent away.
