That's good to see... They started looking alright there for 2 years but it looks like they've lost a little too much in the goalie department.

Scott Valentine

Hey Duck fans, I wanted to come and ask you guys on Scott Valentine's progression. I was looking at the "Are you related" thread on the main board area and it got me thinking about him. We played soccer on the same team for numerous years when we were younger and were good friends during that time period.

In your honest opinion, how well do you think he's coming along and what do you think he'll bring to the Anaheim organization?

Valentine did not sign by the June 1st deadline for 2009 draft picks and re-entered the draft. He was not selected a second time.

He has a chance to be a bottom pairing guy, but he's made it harder for himself now that he didn't sign with the Ducks

Do you know the reason for this? Is there bad blood with management?

If I remember correctly, he wasn't happy with the contract. Not enough money I guess.

The road will be tougher now for him, since he turned down the Ducks best offer.

Sounds like he will play an overage season of juniors and try to sign as a free agent with someone next summer.

I'm sure now he's kicking himself. That was extremely stupid.

Not recently but I remember seeing him play in some preseason game last year. He was quite good so I was dissapointed when he didn't sign with the Ducks.

I wonder how often this sort of thing happens, where it actually works out well for the player. I can't think of any offhand, outside of guys like Boynton who were high picks to begin with. The guys who don't get re-drafted (or get drafted much lower) seem to be far more common. Bryce Swan anyone?

It's hard enough to make the league in the first place, and a large number of players never get that 2nd pro contract. I can't imagine turning one down with no assurances that I'd ever be offered another, especially as a 6th rounder. Of course, if Valentine goes on to have a monster season ... well good for him.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, former Duck Todd Fedoruk (Fridge) has been offered a professional tryout by the Canucks. I am glad to see Fedoruk is still around, especially after all the injuries he has suffered. He is one of my favorite Duck tough guys.

Hope he earns a spot - awesome Duck.

Looking at Bryz's new mask, I think he's been watching too much Rocky to learn about his new city.

You mean the Hangover? A tiger with Mike Tyson's face tattoo is what I see

I was more thinking Eye of the Tiger and the steps of that Philly art museum.

But yeah now that you mention it the tiger does have Tyson's tattoo. Maybe it's for when Rocky gets really drunk and fights Mike Tyson.

Apparently that's not Bryz's mask, because the Flyers just posted pictures of his mask on facebook.

Could be beneficial to both valentine and nashville. Nashville seems to know how to properly develop defenseman and could very well turn him into a valuable player.

If he earns a contract that is...

Jarkko Ruutu signs 3 year deal with Jokerit Helsinki (SM-Liiga)... and will face his last year team mates in exhibition game next month.
