In Pittsburgh's case, it was a cap issue. They let Laraque walk for the same reason.

He's so slow I bet it takes him 72 hours to pass through waivers instead of 24, amirite?

Would be a nice pickup for the Kings. His salary would put the Kings right at the cap and with Sully's contract situation, Ouellet could step right in.

He doesn't hold a candle to Jason Allison.

It was painful watching Allison make a shootout attempt.

It had nothing to do with the cap. More like Ouellet is a maddeningly inconsistent player that flubs a ton of scoring chances. He's a slow skater with no defensive ability to speak of. Therrien was in love with the guy, but Shero didn't think much of him. He's only making 1.25, and he was let go before Malkin or Fleury or Orpik or even Whitney and Crosby signed their new deals.

Ouellet works pretty hard, but he's not a top six forward on a team that's going anywhere in the playoffs.

If that's an accurate description of Ouellet (as well as comments from others in this thread), then the Canucks - PASS. Sounds like Tyler Pyatt, another inconsistant winger, would be just as good (probably better - as his skating ability is decent enough and isn't that bad defensively).

Ouellet skates like he's wearing rollerblades instead of skates.

Poile, if you don't put a claim in on Ouellet, so help me GOD, I... I can't be held responsible for what I'm gonna do to you.

So the Lightning are down to only 29 forwards now.

It wasn't even funny the first time.

I encourage all you people complaining about Ouellet's skating to check out Vinny Prospal sometime. Oullet never stood out to me one way or another, maybe since I'm used to seeing Mr. Hunched Over.

I'm not so sure..
Daniel
Bernier
Raymond
Demitra
Burrows
Pyatt
Pettinger
Hansen
Hordichuk
...seem to be set as our top 9 wingers, in some varying order. I'd rather give the ice time to Hansen who has worked his ass off and has had an amazing preseason. Even if Demitra does play center, is MO really going to be a winger we want?

I don't get the analogy? Roller hockey is extremely fast.. Unless you meant he's wearing roller blades on ice. Yikes.

This made my day. I went to the TB/Pittsburgh 1st preseason game and commented on how Ouellet managed to somehow get even worse since he left Pittsburgh, and this just proves it. He really is a pretty useless player. Can't play D and hits the net 1out of 20 times. I remember when people thought Shero was stupid for not giving him a QO. As more times goes on, more faith I have in Shero.

I don't think so. He should be the 4th line center

Ouellet can be decent if he has the right player next to him. Some how, he couldn't get anything going with Brad Richards, but played amazing with Halpern. He either needs someone to go in the corners and feed him pucks like Halpern, or it was just a werid hot streak he pulled off to end a so-so season

I'm willing to make a wager that Recchi will find himself in a similar situation like he did last year. Except this time the owners are bonkers and won't try to accomidate him like the Pens did.

I'd take him on Montreal to replace Latendresse if he faulters.

Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Tanguay - Koivu - Latendresse
Higgins - Lang - Kostitsyn
Lapierre - Chipchura - Ouellet
Laraque, Kostopoulos

Seems like a good top-14 to me.

At $1.3M He's cheaper than Dandenault..

Talent problem. He skates like he's in potatoes and falls down a lot.

I was hoping to see a powerplay unit of Malone-Recchi-Roberts-Ouellet-Hall.
