Carry 6 d-men. Potter the first call-up. When he's needed, call him up. When he's not, send him down.

Simple as that.
I understand this thinking with a foward but not with a dman. Injuries are going to happen, esp to the D. Potter will get a chance to play and stick when he does. Who says you have to play all 82 games in your rookie season? If he can get into 50 or so games and play well I think it's a nice start to his NHL career.

I think its dumb not to have a extra D man around, what if someone gets hurt right before the game...............now if u want to save cap space than just carry one extra forward not two

in reality they will carry two spares upfront , likely Orr and Rissmiller and on D I think Mara sits to start

Potter should play

If this was a who is a better player thread it would be all for Potter

only reason Fahey gets votes is because it's for a bench spot assuming Mara and Kalinen play full time

How do you tell Potter a journeyman defender beat him out for that spot?
I expect Fahey to be sent down too--I said that in my orginal post in this thread.

If there has to be a 7th defenseman, it can't be Potter - sitting and not playing will ****** his development. Sure, he looks better than Fahey, but I would rather have a steady defenseman in a year and improving moving forward than a better 7th defenseman this year.

I imagine this will be like the Malik situation last year, with the young player going down to Hartford and playing, getting a callup, and if he performs as it seems he can based on the preseason games, he'll stick and the person hurt/sat will continue to sit.

Bingo! I agree, I haven't seen a Rangers D do that in a long time, the last defender I remember to make a nice lateral move was the guy who tried to poke Orr's eye out, I don't remember his name.

Potter if he is going to end up playing 40 games...but if hes going to be in the press box for 90% of the season, then its not worth it for him to sit there. Let him develop more in the AHL and play 80 games and 20 minutes a night. He should be the first injury callup on defense though.

I voted Potter, but really I'd like to see Potter get a regular spot with Kalinin being #7.

i voted Fahey. Not because he is better but because it makes much more sense. Potter doesn't have to go through waivers, and Fahey does. We already lost Pock on waivers and are dangerously think in depth. If we lose Fahey that means we only have Potter, b/c nobody in the AHL is really near ready. I think Potter is better, but he is younger and letting him play every game is better for him as well. But if a long term injury comes up Potter should play over Fahey.

Purinton? Movement in any direction was not his strong point.

Impressive list of suspensions though. The Garth Snow one is the best.

It may mean something, or it may mean nothing, but Fahey is still listed on the Rangers roster on the official website. Potter is listed under "in the system". My guess is that Potter will go down because he won't have to clear waivers (if I'm reading the CBA correctly), and he will be the first callup in case of injury.

Yeah Potter deserves it over Fahey, but knowing Renney I think he will take Fahey because Potter is younger and has potential to develop unlike Fahey who is 27 and probably has reached his ceiling and would serve as the better 7th d-man.

I like Potter and think he deserves it, but Fahey will get it because they do not want Potter sitting on the bench when he can log loads of minutes in Hartford..
