Mair-Neil-Ruutu Off-ice incident

From the Ottawa Citizen:

Quote:
Emotions ran high, especially between Buffalo's Adam Mair and Ottawa's Chris Neil.

After Neil, Mair, the Senators' Jarkko Ruutu and the Sabres' Patrick Kaleta got kicked out of the game at 18:12 of the third, Mair came down the hallway near the Ottawa dressing room, still in uniform, calling for Neil.

Ruutu went out and a scuffle started. It was quickly broken up, but the episode could lead to suspensions or fines. It didn't help that the incident was caught on TV or that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was in the building.
This wouldn't be the first or even second disciplinary incident for Mair with Neil (Mair's 10-gamer for coming back onto the ice to hit Neil while in LA and the "Helmets of Fury" incident early in Mair's tenure with Buffalo). It will be interesting to see how this works out. Considering how poorly they played last night, some good ol' fashioned hatred might boost the Sabres intensity against their divisional owners.

Check out TSN.ca's coverage of last night's game. Joshjull mentioned it's up (about 50 seconds into the clip) there.

There is a small portion of Mair flipping on what appears to be Luke Richardson on the TSN highlights on their website. Luke is in a shirt and tie and Mair is still fully suited up. Something lit a fire in him.

Luke didn't play last night so it's probably pretty soon after the game.

Ah, good catch. That makes a bit more sense.

My guess is that Neils conversation with Kaleta at the end of the game included a message for Mair.

We can't afford to lose the skater at this point.

Too bad RJ wasn't doing a play-by-play of this incident.

This still doesn't change the fact that we sucked last night.

As a sens fan I love what Mair did. Unfortunetly all the sens fans on this board are biased toward their own team. He basically came out to confront Ruutu for probably talking **** the whole game and then not stepping up. Nothing wrong with what he did, and Ruutu should have came out instead of hiding behind his team like a *****. So I'm totally with you guys on this. Nothing that Mair did was wrong he just called Ruutu and Neil out and if they think they're too cool to come out and stand up for themselves then they ain't real men.

Mair should have waited on the team bus.

Then they wouldn't have been able to escape his post-game clutches.

Better yet, catch a flight to Ottawa and wait in Ruutu or Neil's home. Then they'll get theirs!

I suspected that as well.

e.g., Neil tells Kaleta what size Tampax Ruutu uses, and that he forgot to pack some for the trip. Mair brings some by after the game as a peace gesture, Ruutu wigs out because he got cardboard applicator, not plastic. Mair mouths off because Ruutu's not grateful enough.

At least that's the way I see it.

Given the time of year, I'd think the most appropriate course of action would be flying to Ottawa, and jumping out of his closet in the middle of the night wearing an old style goalie mask with an axe in his hands.

Failing that, he could at least TP his house then ring the doorbell and run away.

Save your vinegar for the next game Adam. Not that I don't like that type of fire burning but there is a time and a place. Off the ice where it can cause a suspension isn't the place. Being down Hecht, Gaustad, Connolly, Rivet, Tallinder AND Mair would be alot of trouble. Adam has to know how important he is to the team right now and act accordingly.

That would be.....AWESOME!

Any publicity for the NHL is good publicity.

Look at the NFL.
