HF: Top 50 Prospects, Fall 2008, #26-50

Notable Leafs:

Quote:
43. Jiri Tlusty, C – Toronto Maple Leafs

Drafted 13th overall in 2006, the Kladno standout made the shift to the OHL where, after posting 34 points in only 37 games, he joined the Toronto Marlies at the end of the 2006-07 season. Tlusty made his NHL debut in 2007-08 where he scored 10 goals in 58 games. While his physical play, strong skating, and knack in the faceoff circle have made the transition to North American hockey easy, Tlusty is an offensively minded, goal scorer, projected to be a top-six forward. Barring any major setbacks, the talented prospect from the Czech Republic will remain on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster for the 2008-09 season.

Justin Pogge was an honorable mention.

Good for Jiri, he knocked off some big names to get himself on there.

This also probably means Schenn, Stralman and Kulemin made the top 25

Tlusty's better than Max Pacioretty but I don't think Sergei Kostitsyn, Couture, Little, Petry, Setoguchi, etc, are better (as prospects) than Max or Jiri.

I don't like this list. How is Pogge not there when he's had so much success when Jhonas Enroth hasn;t really proven a thing.

Enroth is pretty awesome though. My beef is with Pogge behind Schneider...

As much as a love Kulemin, he hasnt really looked like top 25 material so far. I know its only been a bit of the preseason, but so far im not really impressed. Stralman I could see in the 20-25 range, and schenn could be in the 15-20 range.

Schenn is top 10 material IMO.

Stamkos, Doughty, Bogosian, Turris, Okposo, JVR and Voracek should be the only players rated ahead of Schenn IMO.

I've seen Setoguchi play and OMG that guy has sick hands and a wicked shot.

Although,he's not at Jiri's defensive level yet.

So the gap between Jiri's offense and Setoguchi's offense is not as big as the gap between Setoguchi's defence and Jiri's

Thats why I have Tlusty ahead

Again that's just my opinion

Well we know one thing for sure .. My boy Patrik Berglund - C - St. Louis Blues will be ranked ahead of your boy Jiri Tlusty ..

Well at least he will if the selection committee knows anything about hockey and can recognize talent.

Berglund was invisible last game.

And hasn't ever played above 2nd-tier euro hockey.

We will see about that Mess, my boy Jiri Tlusty vs. your boy Patrik Berglund for many years to come. And Tlusty won part 1 in game against St. Louis! Though, Tlusty looks really good on the ice. I couldn't find Berglund anywhere on the ice in the Leafs vs. Blues, outside of the faceoff circle. If only Tlusty had Kariya to play with! haha.

Berglund played?

Note that my feed was very choppy, but not once did I hear his name on Monday.

In any case, Schenn will be the only other Leaf on this list, even though most on here would argue Kulemin & Stralman are better than Tlusty.

I expect Stralman to be on the list more than Kulemin.

Tlusty has a year of NHL under his belt and 2 years in North America.

Don't let the early lead by Tlusty fool you as Berglund adjust to the speed of the game and the size of the rinks ..

Your gloating will be shot lived. This is marathon race when it comes to prospects not a sprint.

That's a compliment to Jiri's abilities as he had his moments as a 19 year old forward in the NHL scoring 10 goals in 58 games playing limited ice time.

I'm going to agree with that. I'll bet only Schenn makes the top 25 as a Leafs prospect.

Kulemin and Schenn will make it in the top 25 since both are ranked ahead of Tlusty in your ranking !

HF staff use teams ranking to make the list.

Stralman is 5th on your list so forget him.

Also Price should easily be a top 5 candidate...

I am a VERY BIG Jiri Tlusty fan but Stralman should easily be ahead of him and Kulemin.

After seeing Kulemin in North America I don't think there's any chance he's ranked ahead of Tlusty.

My Personal Top 5, last updated July 31st:

1. Luke Schenn
2. Anton Stralman
3. Jiri Tlusty
4. Nikolai Kulemin
5. Justin Pogge

And i'm thinking Kulemin's dropping to 5 after seeing him play this pre-season.

Tlusty was always our best prospect until Schenn was drafted. He's a legit top-notch prospect, and people just don't recognize how tough it is to play in the NHL at age 19 (not to mention score 10 goals in 2/3 of a season at that age).

Stralman and Kulemin have always been, and continue to be, more "surprise" prospects than Tlusty.

1) Schenn
2) Tlusty
3) Pogge
4) Stralman
5) Kulemin
