It's pre-season, if he's still doing it like he is now 30games into the season then I'll be impressed. I like Grabovski a lot better though.

1 goal, 1 assist and a SO winner.

Plus he is rapidly getting into shape under the Canuck's guidance.

Leaf's are going to regret waiving him.

So not quite as good as Clark MacArthur or Martins Karsums, then?

the 1-1 +SO was just for the night. he's got like 6 points plus the shootout total. he's at over a point per game.

Don't you think they tried to trade his rights?

I think the fact that 16 or so teams passed on the waiver wire before Vancouver came up tells you there was NO bid for Wellwood. Everyone seems to forget he was entitled to a qualifying contract of 997,500.00 and that coupled with his well-known conditioning issues did him in.

There was never any question as to if Wellwood could produce, the question about him is regarding his conditioning and defensive play. The only thing that will slow him down offensively is his injury concerns which are likely directly related to his conditioning. If Kyle gets into and stays in good shape this will be an excellent move for the Canucks...if not, well you could just dump him.

I still think that the Leafs messed up royally by dumping him.

As many as necessary until he shows NHL-level skills and intensity.

I'm sure they tried but when unsuccessful should have held on and hope his value would increase.

The ONLY way his value would have increased was if he played on the first line and gets all PP's, he is NOT a player that can succede at 10-12minutes a game. As bad as the Leafs are in depth, he could not crack the top 6, for the Leafs to qualify him and play him on the top line would have been a real risk taking proposition. Funny how some posters rant about the 1 million in dead cap space Tucker's buy-out cost us yet have no problem with paying Wellwood 1 million on a hope and prayer that he can produce when he has demostrated little to warrant a top 6 position (let alone top 3). Trust me his tenure in Vancouver will be short-lived unless he gets top 6 ice-time with P.P. He is not a 3rd or 4th line player and never will be.
