I managed to find a pub in Stockholm playing the game last night. Not as easy as you'd expect as all the other sports bars had TV booked to show various Swedish Elite league games (Thursday is apparently a big night for them).

I was surprised how few local bar owners knew of the game.

Anyways, found a nice little bar with a huge clear telecast of the game and settled in with a pint of the local lager - Falcon (nice beer BTW). First period was fun, the second period was a little choppy. I figured the 3rd would open up a bit for the Sens if you follow the Lightning & Ranger European exhibition games.

I'm still watching our defense closely. I thought Picard struggled a bit at the start but settled as the game wore on. Smith was nice and physical. Lee looked ok. I saw another one or two weird passes/gaffs from Phillips. I'm not going to get on his case b/c I think he's a solid d-man, but I will mention that he's had several games now where he doesn't seem to be fully prepared at the opening period.

I don't know why Hartsburg is still experimenting at this point in the pre-season, but he threw out an all rookie line-up for one shift of PK (Picard, Lee, Bass, Winchester). They did ok all things considered but still struggled. I don't mind them getting some experience, even during the regular season, but maybe have at least two of the guys with more veteran experience.

Speaking of Winchester, I thought he had his quietest game out there. I'm not sure what line he was one, 3rd or 4th, but you can definitely tell that when he's matched up with slower & less offensive players, he gets a little more out of his element.

Our draft pick, Karlsson #65 looked really good out there, especially for an 18 y/o. He's got a hard outlet pass and has got some nice wheels to carry the puck. I can see why there's excitement that he'll be the next puck-carrying defensemen that the Sens are looking for.

Besides that, I thought the game was good all round. Folingo is definitely carrying his momentum on from the Montreal game. His extra size is really making his confidence strong.

Alfie was having a blast out there. Almost like an all-star event out there for him. Heck, I even saw Bryan Murray smile during the interview over the 2nd period. Speaking of interviewing, the rink owner really should do something about the background, the exposed plumbing behind them was pretty hideous.

It was interesting to see the difference in size btw the NHL & international ice. You can see the boards to the regular ice and the rink is a lot more rounded at the ends compared to NHL's squared-off corners.

Yeah I'll trust you and not Smith who immediately went to Gerber to offer his mea culpa.

Hmm? You mean the ventilation system, right? It's visible inside the arena. The arena was built in 1971, but it will be rebuilt before 2013 since the world indoor athletics championship will be held there. For ice hockey many are hoping that the floor will be lowered so seats reach the ice, but the roof will be exchanged too and bunch of other changes. It will look like a completely new building.

During regular season games there is usually a screen with the league's main sponsors in the background during interviews. They obviously didn't have a screen to use for this game.

Btw. It looks like soft goals might have been a theme for last night. Take a look at the first goal in last nights regular season game between Linköping and Djurgården (it also include the screen I'm talking about). Compared with this, the shot Gerber let in was really hard.

Stockholm is the ass of Sweden. Nothing more ridiculous then people from Stockholm thinking they are living in a modern and big city.

Anyway, great game, im happy for Alfredsson. Ottawa dominated this game, and won fairly.

Are you sure? I'm almost positive Kuba and Heatley were the main PP pair, and I saw Winchester out there in Heatley's normal place.

I know I heard Schubert out there on the first PP they had near the start of the game... maybe he was out as a forward.

Things probably changed as the game progressed.

The game from where I sat

Hey all Sens fans.

I'm livin' in Gothenburg and was at the game yesterday. I think the game was more interesting than I thought it would be.
I was afraid it would be an "all-star game-kinda-game" since neither Frölunda nor Ottawa wanted any unnecessary injuries.

I also used my ordinary camera to record some movie clips. In other words, the quality of the clips are pretty poor but if you're still interested in looking at them I'll give you the links right here:

Enjoy!

Or any good goalie prospect... I think most of us are not that high on Price because he is not our goalie... If we had him, we would prolly be higher but not as much as Habs fans

I wish we picked Jacob Markstrom in the last draft, though we didn't.
We have Elliott and we need him to succeed. If he doesn't, we'll have to get another UFA goalie.

Hopefully we will pick a good one in the upcoming draft... just to have more chances at developping a good goalie...

Cheering for the refs? Nothing wrong with it at all, just that when I go to any hockey game fans Boo the Refs as soon as they hit the ice.

I think the crowd was just eager for the whole thing to start so they started cheering as soon they saw anyone on the ice...

Cheering the refs when they enter is a good tactic.

Then you can boo them when they do something wrong (which most likely means do something, or not).

But if you boo them as soon as they enter then you've made clear that it's never their fault

The refs were amazing btw, much better then the SEL refs we have to see 55+ times a year... Especially the linesmen.
