Oilers place Potulny on waivers

Quote:
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers placed forward Ryan Potulny on Wednesday.

The Oilers acquired Potulny from Philadelphia on June 6 in exchange for defenseman Danny Syvret.

The University of Minnesota product arrived in the NHL late in the 2005-2006 season after averaging better than a point per game in college, and has recorded seven goals and 14 points in 44 total games over the last three seasons with the Flyers.

Philadelphia's third-round pick in the 2003 draft also racked up 68 goals and 118 points in 88 games with the Phantoms of the American Hockey League over the last two years.

Also, the team placed forward Carl Corazzini on waivers and released forward Guillaume Lefebvre from his professional tryout agreement.

Corazzini has appeared in 19 games in the NHL with Boston and Chicago and has two goals and one assist. Last season with Grand Rapids, the AHL team of the Detroit Red Wings, he totaled 24 goals and 36 assists in 80 games.

Lefebvre was played in 38 games in the NHL with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and has two goals and four assists.

That'd be nice if we could get him back, but someone will pick him up.

I remember the argument last year with a surprising amount of people who wanted him to get more minutes whenever we struggled as if he was a kind young gun we were holding back, and not a mediocre tweener who likely was never going to stick in the NHL.

I'd actually be somewhat surprised. Not entirely, but if you need to claim Ryan Potulny to make your team better, you're probably really bad. Only way he comes back to Philly would be on loan.

I do see what you're saying. He's a decent AHL'er, only downside is he doesn't have much NHL experience to make a big impact.

That's because he doesn't make a case that he should.

He's the kind of guy who needs top 6 or nothing. But he can probably be as good as a Christensen or Williams on ATL no?

Maybe, but he never makes a good enough case that he's any better than what teams already have. He'd probably make it on an expansion team or something.

I think he needs to clear waivers in order for the Oilers to send him down to their AHL team. This might not mean that the Oilers have given up on him just yet.

You got the right idea. He didn't get much of a shot in camp. I believe he only got about 1 game in before he was sent down (waivers). I'm guessing that means he was never in their plans for the big club this year.
