still can't believe Luongo was named C as a goalie. hey good for them for breaking the mold.
I think they did that with Beezer in Florida a few years back if I recall correctly..

To be honest, I thought Renney would ultimately go with two captains. Good for Drury though, I think he can handle it

I kind of feel the same way, only problem is who? There is no one who's been here more than 3 months and played more than 2 years except Rozsival, Betts, & Prucha and I don't mind having Naslund where the A over one of them.

Call me crazy, call it fan preferance, whatever, but I actually wouldn't have minded Dubinsky getting an A. I know it'd be a lot of pressure on an already high pressure sophmore year and maybe it's way to early in his carear, but I think he's the kind of person who can handle it and would excel under the pressure. I say if there are injuries and someone needs to where the A for a couple games, give it to Dubi.

Tom Renney will give no letter to Girardi, Dubinsky, Callahan, Staal, etc...

We know this because he gives the letters to those he thinks are worthy of it in the preseason..

Kalinin, Mara, Rozsival, Betts, will all get an "A" before any youngster mentioned.

So unless Redden, Naslund, Gomez, Kalinin, Mara, Rozsival, and Betts are out all at the same time, no youngster will have an 'A'..at least this season.

He is finally Captain Clutch! We all knew it was coming. Noone on this team fit the bill more than Drury.

Nice amount of leadership coming from Gomez, Naslund and Redden as well. I don't think Naslund should have got the A either, but coming from being a C on the Canucks, I guess Renney thought it would be the best to name him an A.

I couldn't picture Renney naming any of the young guys to an A either. Maybe Rozi or Betts, but I knew it would be either Naslund or Redden.

And a good captain he will be.

Gomez gets an A.

And the other A can go to either Naslund or Redden, doesn't matter which, they are both great guys.

Drury deserves this; the guy has so much heart and he really takes it up to another level when the games are important as we saw last year in the playoffs. To me Drury was the best player in the playoffs besides Jagr.

He's is the only choice.

very pleased that drury is the captain. he deserved it even before the pre season yet he still went out and earned it. the guy is a gamer and a winner.

as for gomez and naslund. i agree with both picks. one things for sure, this team will not lack for leadership on the ice and in the locker room. so much for needing gramps shany around to provide leadership. we have plenty already.

they got this one exactly right. well done and bring on tampa.

Obvious choice. He is a leader in every sense of the word. This article was in the Buffalo paper the other day. It's typical Dru.

But it was more than Drury’s goals that made him the likely successor to Jaromir Jagr.

It was the way Drury vocally spurred his team back from a sluggish start as the Rangers scored three times in the third period even with the Metallurg Magnitogorsk players reportedly being promised $100,000 each by team ownership if they could beat the Rangers.

It was the way Drury, along with fellow alternates Scott Gomez and Markus Naslund, pushed the Rangers’ Russians, Dmitri Kalinin and Nikolai Zherdev, to accept the trophy for the team.

Fitting that he gets the captaincy after the MM game.

I thought he had in on lock down even before that, but that game clinched it.

Congrats Drury, i always felt he would be a Ranger his whole career and now hes the captain.. how great it must be for a kid who grew up not too far away in Connecticut as a Ranger fan to become captain.

Good for him and LETS GO RANGERS!!!

I'd rather Redden wear it. First, I just like the idea of having a letter on the back end and second, I never liked Naslund as a leader in Vancouver. I'm putting an A on my Redden jersey just for schitzengiggles.
