Erik Johnson

Does a season-long injury threaten to diminish EJ's value?

Upon recovery, what if EJ's "not the same player"?

What could the Blues get for EJ NOW?

Could a situation arise akin to Belanger & Gleason being exchanged for Jack Johnson (I.e., players who can help a club THIS SEASON as opposed to NEXT SEASON...)???

Why the hell would you trade him? Or even think about trading him?

Except Erik Johnson has already had a year in the NHL, and so far living up to his potential. Jack Johnson hadn't stepped foot on NHL ice at the time of his trade.

EJ's value to the Blues has not changed at all. I'm assuming you know that there's no chance of him being traded, but the cost will certainly be high.

I know the Bruins are VERY high on him and if St.Louis really wanted to make a move to improve this team now I don't think Boston would hesitate to send Savard the other way.

If St.Louis was looking for a two for one I could see Kobasew and Krejci both being on the table.

There would be a long pause, followed by Davidson asking, "... and what else?"

1. This season, worse. Doughty will play, EJ will not.
2. Who cares? Are you offering Doughty for EJ straight-up?

No, because the dynamic when comparing the Hurricanes to the Blues is very different. One was a legitimate contender at the time, removed from a Cup championship season, while the other is still developing its talent. The urgency is not the same. Carolina was in the midst of its window, while the Blues are not at present.

Why does it matter, his value is irrelevant anyway he is not getting traded

Upon recovery, what if EJ's "not the same player"?

Considering his age I am sure the Blues will not be making any hasty decisions based on how EJ plays when he gets back

What could the Blues get for EJ NOW?

Not enough to make it worth moving him

Could a situation arise akin to Belanger & Gleason being exchanged for Jack Johnson (I.e., players who can help a club THIS SEASON as opposed to NEXT SEASON...)???

These "value of" threads get really annoying and it is even worse when they are about a guy who more than likely is not going anywhere for many many many years. I can understand the point of a "value of" thread about a guy who is nearing UFA and is expected to be traded or is known to be available or a least looking over the roster could be deemed expendable, this one serves no real purpose, the Blues are not going to go out and trade EJ just because he got injured.

Doesn't LTIR (is he on it yet? if not he will be) prevent him from being traded?

with the amount of talented prospects in the blues system why try and win now with the odds stacked against you even moreso by trading away your future #1 dman/norris finalist, when you can have a legit chance at a stanley cup in 2-3 years

Better. By a lot. EJ is a generation talent. He will be the next Lidstrom. I don't think the Blues would trade him for anything short of Ovechkin/Crosby/Malkin.

I see no incentive for a team who is building from within to trade the best defensive prospect (with apologies to Zach Bogosian) in the NHL. The package would have to be astronomical.

I mean, he hurt his leg in a golf cart, not on the ice. This does not denote 'injury prone'

He is more valuable to St. Louis than any return for him could be. Even as he is injured.
