Yeah, I was having LaBarbera flashbacks. Bernier needs to work on that aspect of his game, that's for sure. It's good that the Monarchs got a point tonight though.

Monarchs lose 2-1. They gave up the losing goal with 50-seconds left in the game...

Does anyone know exactly what the injuries are to Azevedo, Clune, and Moulson? Beyond the famed "lower body injury" that is. Also any projected time frames that they may return. I would like to include Cliche with that request. Thanks in advance.

Azevedo has a high ankle sprain...(another month)
Moulson has a knee injury (MCL)...(another month)
Clune has a knee injury (a couple more weeks)...
Cliche is a shoulder and is still at least a month out...

Thanks KB, you're a wealth of hockey knowledge. It seems like a long period of time for Azevedo to be out with a high ankle sprain, and I'm not holding out much hope that Cliche is going to play or be effective this year. He'd better hope that he can make it through next season uninjured, or next year may be his last. Way too many injuries for a guy pegged as a checker/defensive forward.

I do have some questions on Bagnall and Piskula though. Piskula has definitely picked up his game as the season has moved along, and Bagnall has improved his physical game (not +-) this season. Do you see either of them coming up to replace a Gauthier or O'Donnell at the end of the year (possibly next year?), or do they even have a future with the Monarchs? Considering that the team currently has five left shot d-men, Hickey coming next year, and they are both on short term contracts, who goes?

Also I would like to give congratulations to Scott Parse who is finally playing effective AHL hockey. He might even be earning himself a new one year deal.

Apparently not this go around. I'm hearing that Moulson and Azevedo may be back in the Monarchs lineup as soon as tonight's game against the Bruins...

So I was perusing the Monarchs' board, and it seems all of the fans are pretty disappointed in Bernier's play. It sounds very discouraging. They think more of Zatkoff even in the few games he's played...

...speaking of Zatkoff, he got the win tonight stopping 29 of 31. Lewis won it in OT, and finished with a goal and two assists.

For your reading pleasure from a thread discussing Monarchs' fans impressions of the team so far...

Quote:
Jon Bernier
Same as Murray. Seeing as how he was so highly touted as being "The One" to solve all the Kings problems in net, I expected to see someone who performed loads better than he has been. Adam Hauser looked better in net than this guy.
For reference's sake, this is what was said about Marty Murray:

Quote:
Quite a disappointment so far. I expected far more out of him than I am seeing so far this season. Perhaps my expectations were set a little too high...
Back to Bernier...

Quote:
Jonathan Bernier: Like RegoMoto said, "he was so highly touted as being "The One"", yet he has let almost as many beach balls in as Cloutier. He needs to play is angles better, or Zatkoff could end up our number one, which I would be fine with at this point.
Quote:
The thing that I keep going back to is how dissapointed I am with how Bernier is playing. I guess I just espected a lot more from Kings first stand out goaltender since Kelly Hrudy.
Quote:
I will agree with you. I am also very disappointed with Bernier, I liked what I saw from Quick more even though their stats were very close. Even though Zatkoff lost the other night I thought he looked good and I hope we see more of him sooner rather than later.
And people wre wondering why Quick was called up over Bernier...

Azevedo is expected to play this weekend in Norfolk. Good to see Moulson back last night but the goal first credited to him was changed to Gabe Gauthier

No kidding! I especially got a kick out of the quote about Hauser looking better... Hauser was 23 the first time he appeared in a game for the Monarchs, can we atleast what until Bernier is that age to compare the two? Oh wait Bernier will more than likely be in NHL at that point.

Not anymore...

Completely unexpected with how decent Zatkoff was doing, and more so with how bad Taylor has reportedly been.

Taylor's last chance to prove his worth, or simply DL wanting both Bernier and Zatkoff getting alot of starts?

I'm guessing the latter.

Bingo

To be honest, I was actually surprised that Taylor wasn't called up instead of Zatkoff because Bernier was going to get the lion-share of starts and Taylor has kinda become the whippin' boy for riding the pine.

It's obvious from my previous posts that I was thinking the same thing. I think Zatkoff getting the nod was at least in part because of Lombardi's reward system. Zatkoff's play in Ontario had earned him the promotion. Now with the emotional and ego stuff taken care of with the reward, he can go back to Ontario and actually play in games...
