Watching this game, it's clear the Monarchs sorely need Purcell and Boyle. Their offense is more pathetic than the Kings.
You are right! The Kings games mean nothing so send Boyle and Purcell (and Drewiske) back before it's to late. Boyle has 2 goals tonight, we certainly could have used him in Manchester tonight.
Solid rebound control, challenged well out of the crease. First goal was a righty coming down the left wing (stick in the middle of the ice) two-on-one top glove snipe. Second was a good tip from the side of the net. Third was a tip in the slot (I'm not sure if it was a Shark or Monarch that tipped it, though).

Are the 'Narcs in playoff position?
No. 3 points behind Worcester with a game in hand.
EDIT: Worcester actually passed Portland, so the Monarchs are 2 points back of fourth-place Portland having played the same amount of games.

The Monarchs lost again 3-2. They're now 4 points behind Portland and 3 points behind Worcester with each team having 3 games left. The final 3 regular season games are at home against division-leading Hartford on Wednesday, at Worcester on Friday, and at home against Portland on Saturday.
I just got home from this game (only live like 15 minutes from the Dunk).
Taylor made some great saves but let in two absolute marshmallows (the other PVD gola was on a 5 on 3). Rask did not play for PVD.
Hickey never looked out of place and threw one realy nice hit early in the 3rd.
Campbell faught KnucklePuck or whatever his name is; held his own.
I forgot all about Tom Preissing still being on this team...
'narchs absolutely owned the 2nd period but couldn't finish (like it says above, they miss Purcell and Boyle).
Saw my 4th penalty shot in person (two in the NHL and two in the AHL). The Bruins' player did NOT score and in fact didn't even register a shot as he overskated the puck
Overall they did not seem like a team fighting for its playoff lives.
Manchester lost again tonight, this time allowing a shorthanded goal with 21 seconds left in regulation to lose the game 4-3.
The Monarchs would have to win their final 2 games, and Portland would have to lose their final 2 games in regulation for Manchester to make the playoffs.
I heard the tying and losing goals were bad goals allowed, were they bad goaltending by Bernier or bad defensive coverage? I know he stopped 29 out of 33 shots

The tying goal was a combination of inattentiveness by Bernier and the defenseman (either Bagnall or Piskula, I forget which) losing the puck off his stick as he began to skate out from behind the net. As the defenseman moved the puck from backhand to forehand he missed catching the puck and it made its way slowly towards Bernier who was standing there with his mind who knows where, his stick off to his side and his 5 hole open for business. Should never have happened.

That was Piskula and Bernier was caught day dreaming (possibly thinking about who he would be golfing with come Sunday).
I just loved how Preissing couldn't muster enough energy to get back on D again when that shortie was scored. What a huge disappointment this guy has been, I thought he'd be another Tvo but.....
Portland just beat Providence ending the Monarchs hope for the playoffs. I am so proud to be a Kings fan, the big club and the farm just oozes with winners!
