You were under the wrong impression. You can't use a contract to circumvent the CBA provision requiring waivers for players of certain age/experience.

Now, time repair you're mistake Gainey and make the move. Put him in a package deal or whatever, but do something with Chipchura while some team might still want him...
It's useful to have a right hand shooting centre for certain situations but there's no particular logic to have him play specifically on the THIRD line. It sounds arbitrary to me.

Personally, I see no use for Dandenault on this team. I'd like to see a younger 4th line than what appears to be the case.

I guess there are dircet questions. Is Chipchura better than Lapierre ? If yes, then is Lapierre better than TK ? As a teammate, I think TK brings something Lapierre may not. If Lapierre is indeed ahead of Chipchura, I'd like to know the reasoning. We won't, but I'm curious nevertheless.
I would hate to look at the roster 3 years from now and still see Lapierre's name on it. Between now and the 2011-12 season, Gainey has to change the makeup of the centre position. By that time everyone but Plekanec will probably be replaced and it is isn't absolutely certain that even Plekanec will still be here, although there's a very good chance he will be.

Lapierre's future is on the wing, I think they see him as replacing Begin/Kostopoulos/Dandenault down the line on the 3rd or 4th line.

A quick question - when July 2009 comes up for Chipchura and his 3 year entry level contract is up does he have to stay in Montreal if they offer to resign him or does he have the options to get move to a different organization?

If Montreal gives him a Qualifying Offer, he is not elligible for free agency.

C'mon guys. This is CBA 101.

Tendering a qualifying offer allows Montreal to retains its rights if Chipchura becomes a RESTRICTED free agent.

If the Habs want to preclude free agency entirely, they have to take Chips to ARBITRATION. A minimum qualifying offer isn't good enough.

Chura is a caste in India whose traditional occupation is sweeping.

The guy askes if Chipchura was allowed to go play where he wants (unrestricted free agency).

Restricted free agency allows teams to approach a player, but not vice versa

Anybody found a confirmation that Denis cleared?

It's been 24 hours so I'd have to assume they both cleared, since we haven't heard otherwise...

You don't think someone will bump him from his roster spot, period, in three years? No free agents, trades, or promotions? I'd be disappointed in Gainey and Timmins.

Right, and Chipchura is a semiconducting silicon sweeper. Duh.

I think Lapierre has his place on the wing of a fourth line.. I could see him and Stewart fighting for ice time in the future..

Told you yesterday that he was staying to start the season.

edit: wow, no one had reported this:

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/261118.html
