British Prospects Thread 07/08

Following on from the spectacular 06/07 class, here's the 07/08 class. It is the strongest one since 1987, headlined by Brett Perlini and Tom Duggan who both have an outside chance at being drafted. James Neil and Iain Bowie enter their second year playing in the EIHL, however the rest are still playing in the second-tier EPL.

If there are any young British-qualified players you think should be on here, please post and let me know. Cheers.

Listed youngest to oldest in draft years - not because I expect anyone to be drafted but simply for reference!

Just heard that Fred Perlini has left Guildford after 20+ years to return to Canada with his family. That includes Brett and Brendan Perlini, two good prospects I guess they probably wont be representing Britain in the future.

Tom Pease and Joe Henry will play for Coventry's new ENL team and only occasionally in the Elite. Connolly is confirmed as with Invicta again and Lewis Glasgow will play in Fife.

Amazing to see Jack Tarczycki listed, he is a Streatham youth product and I never thought I'd see one of our kids on HFboards lists!

EDIT: Joe Greener is confirmed as returning to Traverse City, Mark Lee (was Newcastle NM) is at Mahoning Valley, Aaron Nell is at Kenai River and Tristan Harper (Aug 88 born - was playing in Holland) is at Alpena. All British prospects in the NAHL.

Michael Allinson could be added, he was a pretty decent prospect, I think he's returning to Newcastle B Vipers this season.

I think Tony Hand can safely be removed from prospect lists now

Thanks for the updates. I figured I'd put the stats for the highest level of play they reach so if they only play a few games in the EIHL, it says more than what they do in the ENL which can always be posted in the thread.

I read about Tarczycki when checking Oakford and Line at Bracknell. He's in the same draft year so I just thought he had potential as a prospect.

Never heard of Harper and Allinson before. Have added Harper but I couldnt find much information on Allinson (DOB, team etc) other than an out of date, mostly blank entry on hockeydb.

Removed the older prospects.. now an U21 list. I usually put Hand on there for the sake of comparision. To be a genuine high quality prospect they need to outperform him and the older Brits.

Watched Stephen Lee on Sky the other day. A CHL team really should have taken him in the import draft. He's good enough.

Does anyone know much about Guildford's Evan Gayle and Freddie Trimble? They seem to be a pair of U16's who have now moved up to their U18/U19 team. Gayle had 5 goals in 2 U16 games then 3 in 3 at U18 so might be one to watch.

Richard Haggar is at Kingston playing ed1 with the Jets:

Michael Allison is now playing with Whitley Warriors, i would not call him a prospect though as he is unlikely to go much further than ed1

Still no idea - all I know his team - Williams Lake - was suspended for 07/08. They're probably moving to a US location for 08/09 but what happened to Dewar I dont know.. hockeydb doesnt show a new team and I havent spotted him on pointstreak.com

Ya his team folded.. but now next season the league has decided not to expand into the US, not that it matters for Dewar as he would be too old next season.

I thought he was picked up by the Westside Warriors but his is not on their current roster and when I searched him he is listed as incactive. I always made sure I watched him when he played the local jrA team - incredibly exciting player - St. Louis like.

Anyway if you find out anything about his whereabouts please let me know.

Of that group, Neil, Davies, Oakford and Lee are 1990 born (will also play for U18s). I hear Matt Davies is one to watch.

Clarkson, Christie, Watt and Garside will also be eligible to return next year.

Interesting squad that could be stronger in a year or two if Duggan, Wood, Perlini, Stearns and Boxill come back to Europe to play, plus the 1991 group is looking good. Hopefully 1987 (best year for Britian for a long time) was just the start of consistent development of British players. As for the tournament a lot will depend on how much time the team gets to practice together (never enough).

Will this be updated?

And btw, Andrew Hirst at Sheffield should be added (He's top points scorer in U16-A)

I update it every now and again.

Do you know Andrew Hirst's birthdate? I'm guessing it's 1992 because he's playing both U16 and U18. I've also added Liam Chong and Frankie Harvey from Romford - all three have progressed to U18 level with Evan Gayle and look like good prospects. The pick seems to be Liam Chong who is now 5th highest scorer in the U18 southern league.

It's Feb 92 for Andrew Hirst.

Btw - Clarkson is playing in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL)

Rob Farmer - I'll ask, but he is listed as a Sheffield Scimitars player on their website

Thanks I've updated with Farmer's and Squires latest stats. It's hard to keep track of the juniors as they move between levels so often. I think they started in the ENL and now are in the EPL.

I tried to find Clarkson in the AJHL but he's not listed on any rosters and there are no stats?

Northern Cyclones he plays for.

http://www.atlantichockey.org/goalie...hp?leagueid=77 - Clarksons stats.

As for Scott Conway - He's Britains best chance of a NHL player since Hand. He's not born in 94 though, I thought he was born in 95/96..?

Considering how many times he's played above his age group we can't be sure, '94 was an estimate on my part but it seems he may be even younger than that. All I know is that he's playing U14s level for the first time this year.

Not quite, he played 8 times at U14 for Kingston in 05-06 scoring 3 goals. Then played 12 times at U14 for Guildford last season scoring 8 goals and getting 6 assists, also got 50 PiMs.

He has also played 3 times at U16 this season, getting a goal and an assist.

He played U12 last year. So the oldest he could have been last year is 12 thus meaning he was born in 1995 at the earliest, no?

Yeah I just guessed 1994, but you're probably right.

Any idea if the Conways consider themselves more British than the Perlinis? If Scott wants to pursue a professional career at the very top, with his family connections, it's logical he'd move to North America eventually so he probably wont make much impact for British hockey anyway.

Well, Kevin Conway played loads for GB and is the 2nd all time scorer with 33+33 only Tony Hand has more points, so i would think there is a much better chance of Scott agreeing to play for GB in the future unlike Brett Perlini who has reportedly turned down the chance to represent GB (i might be wrong) at youth levels...i don't see why he would do this since he is seriously unlikely to play for Canada...or maybe its other people pressuring him.

Hopefully he changes his mind in the future because he surely will be good enough.

Perlini played for England teams (I think U13 level) but didnt represent GB. The difference between the two being that playing for England doesnt bar him from representing another country. I can only think he wants to have the option of playing for Canada or America one day. It might be extremely unlikely but it's too early to tell. Or perhaps it has to do with obtaining citizenship.

If either go onto professional hockey in America, I dont think it's likely we'll see them back for GB. Some guys like Clarkson and Nell do come back but we'll see.

Nottingham's homepage (http://www.nihc.info/) says that Conway has been selected for England U13's (he currently plays for their U14 team and is dominant at that level).. the oldest he can be is 12/13.

Edit - looks like he has played 3 games at U16 as well and has 2 pts.
