PROPOSAL: Koivu & Higgins for Gaborik ?

We don't have the chance to see Gaborik often, but he is one of the top-15 talent in this league. He doesn't seem to want to sign with the Wild.

Do you think Gainey should try to get him ?

Would Koivu - who will become UFA and might be intrested to play with his bro- and Higgins would be enough ?

Then we could have line like these:

Tanguay- Plekanec - Gaborik
A.Kost - Lang - Kovalev
Latendresse- Chipchura - S.Kost
Begin- Lapierre - Laraque

This club has other leaders. Kovalev and Komisarek can do the job.

The CUP is more reachable with Gaborik - with his 50 goals potential- in the line up

No its not. Add Gaborik, lose Koivu and Higgins, you lose considerable amounts of two way game on the roster. Also, expecting Plekanec and Lang to handle the middle makes us worse than last year.

It's a terrible idea. It's got EA Sports thinking all over it. I don't see how anyone would ever want less leadership going into the playoffs.

1. Losing 2 vital players could vastly effect our team chemistry.
2. It's a lot to give up for an upcoming UFA player.
3. My Habs include Koivu, until he retires.

A big NO from me.

take koivu out of the trade and give up someone else and im all for it. we cant trade one of our leaders and more importantly, centreman. you cant deny that Gaborik would help us, but it would depend on who we give up

This just recreates the problem of not enough centres and too many wingers that we had before getting lang. I don't see the point of this trade.

It also significantly weakens our leadership.

Gaborik is a great player and all... but i think the team is worse off with this deal.

Are you kidding me? You wouldnt trade Koivu and Higgins for a player like Gaborik Gaborik is probably among the top 10 goals scorers in the league but anyways that probably wouldnt even cut it for Minnesota.

You don't lose leadership/veteranism when going for the Cup. You try to acquire *more*. We're already the scoring champs from last season. Why do we need more goals?

So you're saying we don't have any talent? We got the best Top 9 in the NHL.

It is a combination of talent, leadership and heart that wins you games. We're full of talent. We're full of heart. If there is anything we are sometimes thin on, its leadership and veteran presence. Koivu and Kovalev can't do it all, and if you lose Gaborik, Kovalev is not going to lead this team to anything.

If they really can't re-sign him, then it's not a bad deal for Minnesota. Higgins has some real upside and Koivu could help mentor a few of the younger guys on the club but with that said, it will NEVER happen. Montreal would be giving up too much of their core.

This trade is bad from both perspectives. Minnesota could get more for Gaborik and it makes no sense for us to trade Saku.

We didn't stumble last season because we didn't have enough skill.

We struggled against the Bruins without Koivu and struggled against the Flyers because we couldn't beat Biron *as a team*, not because we didn't have Gaborik, who couldn't beat Jose Theodore last post-season of all people.

Perfect time for Saku to leave Montreal. I'm sure he waited his entire career playing on very mediocre teams to wait until the team was ready to start contending for the cup to waive his NTC.
