To Boston:
Alexander Nikulin or Christoph Schubert

To Ottawa:
Peter Schaefer (and maybe a 4th/5th)

As some of you may know, Schaefer is one of my favourite players. We do have the room to sign him, and I believe a return to a more offensive team in Ottawa would make him flourish. As long as he's not lazy, he'll perform well.

Nikulin is also on the trade block due to the fact that he's asked for one after Murray feels that he was not good enough to make the big team. He is one of my favourite players as well.

It may not happen because of how Schaefer left Ottawa, but I feel this is even value-wise. Nikulin may be able to make the team in Boston, IMO.

Schubert has all the tools to be a great defenseman, but he has not been given that chance in Ottawa. Boston is in need of defensemen, so he may get that chance there.

Senators full forward roster with Schaefer:
Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
Schaefer - Fisher - Foligno
Kelly - Vermette - Winchester
Ruutu - McAmmond/Schubert - Neil

Schaefer? That's gross. Murray hates him anyways.

I'm pretty sure he can play wing.

I don't think you'd need to even offer a player; Schaefer could probably be had for a low-round pick.

Murray does not like Schaefer... at all.

When he was waived, Murray said he wasn't surprised because he's a guy who doesn't want to work hard and expects things to just be given to him.

So yeah... I doubt he comes back to Ottawa.

True enough, but we'll have to trade Nikulin somewhere anyways.

I like Nikulin...But doesn't he want to play in the NHL? Boston has depth through their ass right now...So not sure how we'd do that. I'll take Schubert, though.

Deal. Schubert would be an upgrade over our no. 6 dman in Hnidy or Alberts.

Yeah, he wants to play in the NHL. He's got pretty good offensive skills, he could pay off if you give him a moderately big shot.

It was Schaefer that asked to be traded. What goes around, comes around.

I think we would rather pick up Schaefer on waivers for nothing rather to trade something for him

But no we don't want him, he has negative value and something better than a 4th/5th will have to come back if you want to dump Schaefer

Meh. We can afford him. Remember, he put up 50 pts playing top six minutes. He was played poorly in Boston.

no offense - but HE played poorly - her was given opportunity in Boston and repeatedly decided not to show up - until the last bit of the season and then the playoffs - he looks like a guy with almost no desire - if he really WANTED to play in Boston he could play with Savard and Ryder - but on ice, he shows almost zero effort...

If we wanted Schaffer we could've picked him up for free. At this point, he's a shadow of the player he once was, and him coming BACK to Ottawa wouldn't make things better. He wanted out of here remember? I think it's time to let go, and just wish him good luck.

In case you can't tell, I don't want to have anything to do with this deal. Giving up any players for Schaffer is a waste imo.

Schaefer started out as the top line left wing and played himself into being a healthy scratch, he was given the opportunity to be a huge part of the team and he didn't even seem to try.

He was invisible, he was outplayed by every single other player on the team, he didn't begin to show any kind of effort until somewhere around game 76 last year. If he played like he did in the playoffs last year, he would still be on the team, Chiarelli even said in the offseason how he wanted Schaefer to have a bigger role on the team this year. I am guessing in the preseason he was again outplayed by at least by every forward still on the team.

His salary is also way to much for a guy who would end up on the 4th line or a healthy scratch.

For whatever reason, he just isn't the player he was for Ottawa.

I have never liked Schaefer and his jump over the boards, go take the pass, give up the puck and make his line change routine. I was glad to see him leave the team.

I would sooner prefer to see Yashin or Lalime come back than Peter Schaefer, and I don't want either of them back anytime soon...
He is Boston's problem now... I wouldn't even take him for free (off waivers...)

NOW... If you Bruins want to move that Chara fellow that Muckler never should have let walk in lieu of Wade Redden, well, then we have some talking to do...

Boston can't give him a big shot, it's just now that we are finally giving Phil Kessel a shot, we don't have space for Nikulin.

I can't believe you have Schaefer Fisher Foligno as our second line.... its arguable that not one of those players belongs in the top 6, especially Schaefer who doesn't belong on the Sens period ala BM.

Schubert for Schaefer is unfair for the Sens IMO, you should be dancing on the streets with this proposal.

Massive no from the Sens.

He was referring to Nikulin. He's a center. He want's to play in the NHL and that's something we can't offer him. Savard, Bergeron, Krejci, Sobotka are better than him. He'd probably be 3rd liner in Providence.

Ryder, Sturm, Kobasew, Wheeler, Axelsson, Kessel, Lucic...There's no way he'd be in Boston. I'd do it for Schubert in a second though. I'd even add a pick/prospect.
