Mathieu Carle receiving NHL pay-cheque?

When the NHL opening day rosters were announced, Mathieu Carle is on the Montreal Canadiens, due to being on the injury reserve.

Does this mean he is currently collecting an NHL pay-cheque?

Hmmm... is it IR or LTIR....

That makes a difference if he is counted against the cap or not.

I was asking more-so just to see for his benefits.. cause that's pretty cool for him if he's getting an NHL salary.

i think they both would be on NHL salary.... both him and Bouillion... and that all 25 players are counting against the cap now...

I'm not sure on this though... I'll PM an expert and see if he knows.

I'm thinking they both get an NHL salary but they don't count towards the cap?

It would make no sense to pay him NHL salary too. I think he's considered in Hamilton, but he's still in Montreal as there are better trainers.

Actually I believe you can not send a player to the minors if they are on the ir.

Short answer: Bouillon gets his NHL salary, Carle gets his AHL salary.

Logic: Article 15.6 spells out how players injured in training camp get paid. Bouillon is on a 1-way contract, so he gets his NHL salary. Carle is on a 2-way contract and wasn't on an NHL roster for at least 50 NHL Games last season, so he gets a salary based on
-- the fraction of time he was on an NHL roster last season [call this A], and
-- the fraction of time he was on a minor league roster last season [call this B].

The amount Carle gets is A * NHL Salary + B * AHL Salary. Since A was 0 last year, B=1 and he gets his AHL salary.

Bouillon counts against the cap in full - hopefully, everyone knows by now that players on Injured Reserve [even LTIR] count against the cap. I even wrote a couple of paragraphs on this on my website. If you didn't know that players on IR counted against the cap, remember it.

How does Carle count against the cap? A few of us are still working on this; according to reports from Detroit, Carle would count at his AHL salary while on IR - but nothing in Article 50 backs that assertion up ... so all I can say right now is "check back later."

Thanks... always appreciated, when questions like this come up.

The thing is, Carle was injured last year in camp and missed the start of the season in Hamilton, yet I don't recall him being on IR to start the year. It's weird.
