Keep an eye on Edmonton

Today, Edmonton cut Brule, Peckham and Chorney. All the preseason games are over. Schremp was not cut, but the Oilers still need to cut another player. We are currently at 26 players, with 2 on the IR that will eventually be sent down (Roy and Jacques).

That leaves 1 too many players with. There may be a 2 for 1 trade or waiving at some point soon.

Look at what you've done. Now Eklund will be all over this like E5's on a Smyth signing.

I think Schremp left the team for personal reasons, from what I saw of him in preseason I would guess he'll be cut whan he returns to the club.

Yeah I wager this is the case as well, talk about a non-story.

God the over reaction of people on these boards is mind boggling sometimes.

Ugh, his grandfather died, so he left to attend the funeral. He might be cut, but he's shown alot more this year, then he has in the past and he has a legit shot to stick.

The funeral is on thursday, all cuts have to be made by tomorrow. Even if they wanted to wait, they won't be able to without waiving someone else. So unless they are planning to cut Schremp less than 24 hours later and before the funeral as a 'courtesy', this makes no sense. I admit it is possible though.

Is "Big Mac" going to make the team. I hope so. He's going to do some damage if he does. I can't wait for the Boogard v. MacIntyre fight(s). I'll be watching the fight sites like a hawk.

I know you love your team but honestly you can't think he's NHL ready.

I was at the game friday and he looked really bad IMO. Even for the PP where he could be good enough the Oilers certainly have 6 better forwards than Schremp.

Lets face facts, 4 years ago 23 other GM's passed on him, It appears they made the right decision.

You mean the whole 10 minutes he played?

That's my guess (or hope). Either traded or demoted.

Kinda feel bad for Schremp. He might have been able to stick with some other team, but not Edmonton. They are loaded up front.

It creates a roster spot. Pretty tough to carry 3 goalies and keep the other players you want on the roster.

It could be possible they wanted to cut him with this group of players too, but couldn't get a hold of him before. Might just want to wait to announce that he's been cut, until they have a chance to tell him themselves. It would be a ****** situation if Schremp ends up reading about being cut on a ticker or something.

Or he's made the team.

Thats a poor means of rationalizing. What about Zetterberg being overlooked 7 times over by each GM? Draft position is a poor reference point for whether any player should be NHL ready at a given time.

But you are right, he isn't ready.

Most people were expecting Brule to go down to Springfield to work on his game this year

Are you saying he needs more than 10 minutes of ice time to just get noticed, let alone contribute in a meaningful way?

If so, Schremp is a longer way off than I previously thought.

Brule needs to be where he should've been put two years ago: the AHL.

The Oilers acquired Brule with the thought that he was going to start the year in the AHL. The guy was poorly handled by the Blue Jackets and the Oilers want to try and allow him to get his offensive confidence back.
