This is just absurd, we must be the most consistently injury jinxed team in the NHL. 2 important players going down for months before the season even starts.
Why is it that we are thin at D so we lose 2 defenseman but at forward where we can afford to lose a 3rd liner we dont? 12 forwards and 6 defenseman...2 injuries...both defenseman. Terrible.

It looks like we're trying to keep pace with the Penguins in the injury department as well as the standings...
Sbisa is not going to play all 82 games. He is going to play 9.
And how many people on here said he wouldn't be making the team, let alone be on the opening day roster? Unless some sort of trade happens quickly, who the hell knows anymore.
Not with Jones and Parent out he won't. He's here for the year. Get used to it.
No he won't. They try to be smart with their prospects. Sbisa may look good early on, but the grind of the season against much bigger players will wear on him greatly. This is why defensemen almost never play directly out of the draft.

and how many people here knew that both Jones and Parent were seriously injured?
i can't imagine them being ok with sbisa playing all year, but who's even around to trade for? and what happens to this guy when jones is ready to come back?
Keep in mind that Holmgren apparently said a few days ago that Sbisa was going to be on the team opening night, regardless of what happened with Parent (before it was known he was going to need surgery). All of a sudden, he's in the market for a defenseman. Should tell you all that needs to be said.

I just hope we're not looking at another Vandermeer or Modry catastrophe of a move. I'd rather promote from within than add another leaking band-aid. With the season just about to start, I don't know what they can shake free from another team.

Let's not forget that with the injuries to Parent and Jones, that only leaves six bodies on the bench for the D. That'd probably be the reason why Holmgren's looking for a defender. And to be perfectly honest, what kind of defender is Holmgren going to find? We're not going to find a top flight defender and that we're probably looking at someone on some other team's scrap heap. So yeah, Sbisa is going to be playing a lot of hockey early on.

Who does Holmgren expect to get that would make it worth while for the other team to take someone from our farm we don't need.
We had the answer to this problem in training camp, and is the simplest answer and don't have to give up a real asset, who knows, maybe that's what he's trying to do.
Whatever happens is eventually going to create a log jam on defense when Parent, Jones and Hatcher all come back, along with this mystery defenseman.
well at least now Stevens can't play him. Of all the mediocre talent we have ever had Stevens is the only reason Jones isn't terrible...no one else has been given half the chance he has. Now Kukks can have a deserving spot
