Damn....AA has been a scoring machine as of late...8 goals in the last 8 games after only getting 2 in the first 15 games (but 11 assists as well).

how has Anisimov been with his skating and speed this year? does anyone know? During pre-season he just seemed a step slower than everyone.

His starts could still be better, he's not very explosive, but once he gets moving he moves very well and has good speed.

The step behind issue in pre-season wasn't a matter of his actual skating speed, but of just not being accustomed to processing the game at the speed it's played in the NHL. Also, Russians in general don't stop and start well, they're more accustomed to circling on the big ice, so it's an adjustment. Zherdev still does it. It's a big part of the reason people here call Russians "lazy"... it's not laziness, just how they've always been taught to play.

Sanguinetti is also 8th among AHL defensemen.

23 GP | 2 G | 13 A | 15 Pts.

It's a shame the Rangers don't give him a shot.

Not like they would be risking too much. The prospect of adding a little more offensively skilled players should be enticing for them.

At the least, if he shows some scoring touch in the NHL he could be used as a chip later.

Thats great news IMO.

Many question his defense -- its not that bad at all. Like a vet NHL D got a extremely high low level compared to D's outside the NHL. Its hard to explain, because many notice the "misstakes" these D's commit, like mishandles the pass et c. But they are always there, they are always involved. If you go down to the SEL or the AHL you see allot more plays where the D's like goes in and battles and whops they end up standing alone in the corner with the play moving on. Playing D is allot about playing D as a 5 man unit too. Like when you pressure all 5 players on the ice have to pressure. When you collapse, in its turn, all 5 players must collapse. Otherwise there is always gaps that can be taken advantage of. A vet NHL D does thoose things really well.

And just beeing there makes it so much harder for the attacking team. Its when you position yourself wrong when things get really dangerous, when goals are scored that are impossible to stop for the goalie.

Sanguinetti can handle 1 on 1 situations as well as many NHL D's. Sanguinetti is as strong along the boards as many NHL D's. Sanguinetti takes his position as well as many NHL D's.

But its his consistency thats only at like 90% now. Like once a period he will pressure someone hard along the boards, when his teammate is collapsing. Or he will misjudge someone and be knocked down. Stuff like that. But overall his defense definitly isn't bad, its should just not atleast be charicterizesed as "good" for the NHL level.

IMO, its Sanguinettis offense that I've been worried about lately! Like in the WJC's when I've seen him he didn't stand out at all offensivly. In camp, compared to Del Zotto, he didn't stand out offensivly at all either. If his offense was working I think he would be NHL ready right away. Thats what he needs to work on, getting his offense to a level where he can be a good PP player in the NHL. Then he will be ready. And its great to see that he is starting to pick up pts in the AHL.

Yea but if u look at the score sheets, his assists are more often secondary. Plus look at his OHL stats and how he led D in goals. Its not the assists that worry me but the goals. Sangs is supposedly a goal scoring D man with a big shot. Hopefully hes still getting adjusted to the AHL level, but for a guy that dominated the OHL offensively you would have hoped that he would be standing out early on in the AHL. Squishy what do you see in the potential of Sangs? Is he someone with a lot of upside that just needs to time to develop or is he someone who will eventually become an NHL player but not as good as we expected him to be?

Artem has pretty good speed. He gets around AHL defensemen with ease most of the time.

its not just his goal scoring....its his ability to make the great first pass.....that would most likely lead to some secondary assists....

The OHL and AHL are two completely different animals.

Sanguinetti is no longer playing kids. He is playing against professional hockey players a tick lower then the NHL.

He is only 20 years old. And a rookie. And only 34 games (5, 6, 23) into his professional career. And despite it, he is 8th in the league. So it is translating to the professional level.

I don't care if they're secondary or primary. They look the same in the points totals. They're good for his confidence. Secondary assists are not bogus, either. Usually it means you played a big part in setting up the goal.

And on another note: Del Zotto is also currently 5th among all OHL defenseman. 18 years old.

There is NO reason to rush Sanguinetti or Del Zotto..........actuallyI don't think you will see them get in for a few yrs........Rozsival is not going anywhere folks and if you really think about it that way then the Rangers have there top 4 set and hopefully Potter can be the 5th with a guy like Mara staying ..........if anyone gets hurt give the kids a shot but that is next yr

I didn't imply that we should rush them.

Although if the Rangers brass, who has been very competent in developing players in recent years, feels that either are ready in a year or two, then i will trust their judgment.

greetings from hershey pa where the wolf pack are already trailing the league-leading bear 1-0 and the game is on hold while a few thousand teddy bears are picked up.

The Pack have a new signee - no. 37 stefani-something. Right wing, playing on Moore's line with Rissmiller. Lots of PIMs.

9Oh look a 5-on-3. Argh.

squishy you're at the game?? Let us know if Fahey returns. Matt Stefanishion is the new signing, he's played 3 AHL games with the Bears in 06/07. Was on Fresno in the ECHL up until now.

thanks jarrko, I knew it was something like that, but figured I'd butcher it if I tried to type it.

And yes, we're at the game. Hershey's almost the same distance for us as Hartford. :-P

End of 1st. If you told me it would only be 1-0 before the game I would have been happy. But blowing the 5min maj and 5-on-3 hurts.
