I'm not really commenting on the proposal, I just wanted to ask are the Pens in any position to be trading a defenseman right now? I thought Gonchar and Whitney were going to be out for a while.

This was basically my immediate thought when reading this. By no means am I in any sort of zomg let's trade for a defenseman boat but at the same time we are definitely not in the situation to be trading one away.

Where they would put Staal in? Staal - Getz - ? I don't think Anaheim would not even consider this, because Getz and Perry are so dynamic together and Ducks offense and future is build around those two.

I sure would love to get Perry in Pittsburgh, but it's just not possible.

No way.

We need defensemen right now, and Gill has played well since he got here.

Perry is a good scorer, but not worth both these guys right now.

I would try something smaller involving the cap casualty, Bobby Ryan.

Perry just signed a 5 year extension in order for the Ducks to keep him with Getzlaf.

first nice english, and second IMO change perry for Beauchemin and add moen and/or Ryan Carter

Perry is worth more to the ducks than Staal and gill right now and the pens need a dmen and better third and forth line depth

What about Tyler Kennedy and Kris Letang for Bobby Ryan and Francois Beachemin?

Kris letang is as good as Beachemin and still hasn't reached his full potential yet but seeing Ryan is a Pens jersey would be sweet

wat about Kennedy and Talbot for Ryan and Carter

No way the Ducks would make that trade.

So...this would give us way too many defensemen. When Whitney comes back we got even more...We already got 7 without Gonchar, and Whitney, that would leave us with 10 when Gonch comes back.

So you don't see Pittsburgh adding a single defenseman, at all, to make up for the losses they've suffered? I think a talent like Beauchemin would be a welcome addition to the Pens blueline right now, considering who they've currently got back there.

No i don't. Shero is not a rush rush kind of guy, he's patient and Whitney will be back in a few months. Untill then we can hold fort with what we have. It's only 2 games, there really is no reason to panic at all. Staal goes for a 2 way winger, not a defenseman.

let's wait 15-20 games and see how the pens do before saying the pens need to add a dman. i have faith in letang and goligoski. i think many fans will be surprised at how well the penguins do, even without their top 2 dmen.

Fantasies are great, and anyone can be dealt. Ok, with those two disclaimers out of the way, Perry's not getting traded. He's a cornerstone.

Ryan is a bit more likely to be dealt, but not much.

The Ducks have Pahlson, do they really need another shutdown guy in Staal?

Do you think he's worth more or less?

I can't tell.

I think it's fair value, to be honest, maybe a little in favour of Anaheim.

I think it's overpayment. You have a top tier prospect, and a top 4 dman at a very reasonable contract for a kid who has yet to prove that his 29 goal season wasn't a fluke. Albeit, he was hit by the sophomore slump, I'll give him that much.
