No Fire-Sale in Atlanta because.......

besides Savard, Kovalchuk, Heatley and maybe Kozlov and MacEachern there's no other player on the Thrashers team a team that is playoff bound would want. When I say want, would we get anything in return worth anything?

Totally right. In my opinion in aint worth offloading players that are not impending UFA such as Aubin or Petrovicky who have done a good job this year for just a draft pick, most likely 3rd or 4th round. The only players I see possibly going would be Tamer and Dafoe due to their impending UFA status.

Tamer is out for the season, back surgery I believe. Pretty good chance that his tenure with Atlanta is done.

DW say's he's a buyer not a seller! Well, what is he buying it with, assets? The assets on the team we're not going/willing to part with and the other assets we'll not get much return on, so where are the assets, on the farm?

According to today's Tennessean, Nashville may be looking at Sutton, DW was at Nashville's game last night.

I sure hope not. Gamache is vastly underrated in my opinion and will make an excellent NHL'er someday. The kid's got heart and hustles like a mad man. If we trade him for sutton or the like, I'll be

I don't think DW would be looking for a D-man back. I like Hutch but we've got a bunch of guys more or less like him already on the squad or in the minors.

I definitely think some kind of deal could be worked around a guy like Arkhipov though. I'm not sure what all it would take or if he is even available but a forward who could play on our second line would be perfect.

Sutton is arguably our best d-man so I think DW would be looking for something along the lines of Arkhipov + a pick for him, but I would be satisfied with a straight-up trade.

Considering we gave up a 2nd for Majesky, the return must be better than that.

No thanks on Hutch, the last thing we need are more MSU Spartans.(actually, looking at his stats I think I would take him despite his Spartan roots)

True, but I'm still of the opinion that DW got screwed in the Majesky deal.

We've had decent luck with Spartans Adam Hall and Andrew Hutchinson.

I still agree with that!

Majesky is a fair addition but is he a better addition than would have been the possible choices at #2 : Fritsche, O'Sullivan, Mirnov, Bergeron ...

Oh that's right, Majesky makes us a playoff team this year!

Arkhipov for Sutton straight up is as much as I would give. Arkhi still has a load of talent and could easily excell in Atl, especially with a dynomite winger.

I wouldn't mind seeing Arkhipov for Sutton and a conditional pick. The pick would be predicated on Arkhi's performance statistically. If Arkhi tears it up, that pick should be a 3rd or so. If he falls on his face, a 5th.

I meant to reply to this eariler, but I think Kozlov could get something moderatly ok depending on the market. He has always been a great playoff performer and he even holds the Red Wings team record for most playoff game winning goals. From 1995-2000, he was 3rd or 4th in the NHL in playoff goals as well. No Red Wing was ahead of him.

I think you guys might still be going off his first full season. Since then, ole Arkhi has played 142 games. He has 19 goals and 26 assists. Just a touch over .3 points per game. He almost had more points in his first full season as he has in the 142 games since. He's really not good. He's just big, plays D, and floats around.

The perfect foil for Kovalchuk!

His recent play is the reason I originally said him + a pick for Sutton. I think he'd be a good center for Ilya, he can play good defense and still passes relatively well. Plus he isn't all that old, so there is still time for him to regain that form he had during his first full season. Granted, his play has been rather lackluster this season but a change of scenery and a linemate like Ilya could get him producing again.

If the price is right I think it is a gamble worth considering.

Then we could ice an entire Russian line:

Kovalchuk-Arkhipov-Kozlov

Honestly, I think Arkhipov would be a better center for Ilya than anyone on this team not named Marc Savard.

If I am Bob Gainey I'll try to get Sutton as the 6th D for the team. What would Atlanta want in return?

Do you think a deal could be worked around Chris Higgins?

I agree. He is one prospect that I am very jealous Atlanta does not have.
