Minnesota-Toronto, aka RFV's *FAIL*

Obviously the Leafs would need some indication that he won't just bolt for UFA, so maybe a sign and trade would have to occur, but...here is my far-fetched proposal I don't think I've seen here.

Kaberle for Gaborik.

I'm fully aware that Minnesota already has a solid defence, but Kaberle would no doubt be their #1 and has a solid deal, leaving Minnesota room to shop for a not as good but solid winger during the offseason.

With Mats gone, the Leafs will likely need a top line forward, and I don't buy into them being a bottom barrel team. Good enough to make the playoffs? No way. But most people in Leaf land are kidding themselves if they think Tavares being a leaf is a manifest destiny. Back on Gaborik, the Leafs have PLENTY of cap space to sign him (with currently ~10M. Kaberle being gone would add another 4.25 to spend), so money isn't too much of an issue.

I think this would be a solid trade for both sides, though I'm sure I've just stated puck-centric blasphemy and I'll probably be thrown off an e-cliff. If I'm way off, Failblog.org is a good place to get FAIL pics to bombard me with.

Anyway, thoughts? If you think more should be added on either side, say so instead of just going 'OMG NO FAIL'

I'd recommend that you stay in the corner.

Kaberle isn't going to get Toronto an offensive super star like Gaborik.

In terms of top forwards in teh league and top defencemen in the league.

Gaborik and Kaberle would rank similarly. Yet Kaberle won't get me Gaborik.

BUT everyone wants to take Hedman ahead of Tavares.

Lol.

I think Minny would reject since I'd assume they'd want a good young forward coming the other way.

Toronto offered Kaberle for Jeff Carter, and that didn't happen.

Now you expect it to work for Gaborik?

Get over it. Kaberle is good, but not THAT good.

Actually, Philly offered Carter and a 1st for Kaberle, and KABERLE was the one who said no.

Ditto.

Please, any offer from Toronto fans which includes Kaberle is becoming more boring than the classic "Ryder-Halak-2nd" from Habs fans...

But point is, that trade was considered by both sides.

In contrast, this trade is not fair.

I take Jeff Carter over the whole NYI team.

Bad adjective to use when describing Carter.

Point is you tried to make it seem as though Kaberle was worth less than Carter.

And you failed, miserably.

No, it's more like Carter and a first is less then Gaborik, and Toronto was willing to let go of Kaberle at that price.

Kaberle is one of the better D-men in the league and Gaborik wants more than 8 million per season (and presumably not from the Wild). Kaberle who's signed for 2 more years after this one at a bargain basement price of 4.2 million is absolutely enough to get Gaborik.

Maybe...you have to add in a prospect, but nothing major. The Wild would be nuts to turn that offer down - especially if Kaberle has agreed to waive his NTC to go.

Then they's build their D around Kaberle and Burns and look at trading one or even two of Johnsson, Schultz, Zidlicky and Skoula for offense.

Kaberle would NOT be Minnesota's #1 D. He'd be #2 at best. Brent Burns >>>> Kaberle.

the islanders were completely irrelevant, and he wasn't doing too well until after the trade deadline, then he exploded

Can't believe how much Kaberle is underrated as of 2008.

Not quite. Actually, not at all.

If anyone cares to read the thread proposed earlier Markov for Gaborik, there wasn't half the opposition there is now (Kaberle and Markov have been generally regarded as very similarly skilled players) and Kaberle has a better contract.

Hahahaha.

No.

Not at all.

Kabs is a top 5-10 defenseman.

Wow.

Kaberle is definitely more than enough for Gaborik, even as a sign and trade. Gaborik has all but said he's leaving Minnesota. Why would you trade for him if you know that even if he does get traded this year there's a strong possibility he will go ahead and test UFA come July.

As a sign and trade, it's too far-fetched to actually consider at this stage.

Minnesota could get a lot more for Gaborik at the deadline than they could get for Kaberle.
