Here is Rypien taking on Brooks in the AHL. Brooks only weighs 185 pounds so he's not that much bigger than Rypien

And this is ignoring three preseason bouts against where he drew against 6'3, 205 lbs Sutherby, and demolished 6'1, 208lbs Sharks defender Brad Staubitz and 6'1, 200 lbs Sharks defensemen Mike Moore.

~Canucklehead~
Not sure that Rypien "demolished" Brad Staubitz. I was at that game and while Rypien may have gotten the better of him, it was Rypien who came away with a bloody face. Was that game even telivised?

So does Rypien really only weight 170?

On the Yahoo profile it lists him at 184
On ESPN profile it lists him as 181
But on his Canucks profile it lists him as 170

At the end of the day I guess 5 to 15 pounds don't make a huge diffrence, just seems when I see this guy fight he does not appear to be quite that small?

Hell of a fighter though.

Valabik sucks at fighting? Guy was OHL champion in 2006. Had like 2-3 losses in 3 years in OHL.

And he can't beat Brandon Prust, who is significantly smaller.

idk... Rypien is a very... Punch first kinda guy... makes a flurry of contact, but im not sure how he would match up against someone who can hit hard, looks like none of the guys he fought could see past his flurry, which is probably a testament to his fighting. It would be interesting to see him take on a middle/heavy weight and see how he stands. His fights seem to be all about shoving his hands in the other persons face as much as possible, not sure how that would work on a guy like Orr or Laraque.

1.Prust was 20 Valabik was 18.

2.Prust is a good fighter.

3.It was like only fight in season that Valabik didn't won. He didn't lose it also.

To say that Valabik sucks at fighting is just false.

He is not going to fight Orr or Laraque. He is like 180 lbs. Nobody says that he is absolute best fighter in NHL. It's about pound/pound.

Apparently Rypien isn't much of a hugger.

Stortini won't fight Hordy...then he fights Ryper and gets destroyed.

Stortini got a bunch of punches in, but Rypien caught him with a good fast quick punch to start it off.

Rypien won, but I don't think he owned Stortini.

Sorry man, when you've got 50-60 pounds on a guy and you're the one that ends up with a busted face after losing a fair fight, you got owned.

Where did Stortini head after the fight, holding his face? Pretty sure Rypien didn't have to head to the dressing room...

5'11 - 184 vs 6'4 220. Quite a nasty lil' dude.

The best was Rypien vs Prust in October.

it doesn't really pay for a lot of big guys to fight Rypien. If they win, people can say that it's because they are so much bigger and they look bad for picking on a much smaller opponent, but if they lose, it looks absolutely terrible.

It looks bad if they turn down the fight too. They look like ******* in turning down such a small player for a fight.

I know a lot of people don't like Stortini but I do. He's a good hitter and a good teammate. You know he went after Rypien for his actions with Souray.
