Roenick feeling WORSE?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=73295

This is ugly. It sounds a lot like the stuff Beukeboom was saying. Hockey or no hockey, good luck to JR.

After getting his grill smashed in Phoenix u think he would have learned. He should have gone to the cage or full sheild. Thorton is kicking ass with the cage on. I could never understand why these fools dont protect themselves properly. There is nothing kool with a grill full of missing chicklets. I hope this is not a insurance scam.

This is sad. I just hope everything works out for JR and his family... I do think he is DONE and will retire... JR has nine concussions now which is one more than Lindros! The best thing for JR to do is walk away from the game and go on and enjoy his life and his family... He could be a broadcaster in the next few years... But he should not comeback. It would be stupid and crazy...

Roenick update

Center Jeremy Roenick is back at his home in Phoenix resting with his family and said yesterday that his concussion symptoms are beginning to subside.

Roenick said Sunday that when he woke up, he felt better than he has since being struck on the jaw by a puck on Feb. 12, suffering a fractured jaw. He said yesterday that he again felt better.

"I very, very excited about it," Roenick said. "I still can't eat, but that's 4 weeks away." Roenick underwent a scan of his brain stem Friday but had not learned the results as of late yesterday afternoon.

Roenick plans to return to Philadelphia tomorrow and is hoping to visit a concussion specialist in Montreal on Thursday. Roenick said that if he can arrange it, he will travel from Montreal to Ottawa to be with the Flyers when they play the Senators Thursday night.

An insurance scam? What, like someone staging a car accident, or slipping on a grape in the produce isle?

BTW, the shield would not have protected JR. he got hit in the jaw.

According to Ed Moran's column today (see below), Roenick is starting to feel better every day.

That would be good advice for you to follow, "g-man."

I could care less if you come here. Be my guest.

I have to laugh at your statement that the Flyers season will be over soon. How does your team plan to get by any of the teams when they are scoring about 2 goals a game?
I'm being very lenient letting you have 2 goals a game. The people that were "clutch" for you last year have vanished like your fanbase does every year. Flyers don't have that problem.
Granted, we are having a tough time but that will change, it always does. I mean we have how many players out? Esche, Primeau, Roenick and Desjardins and still #1. You have one out and you are 2nd in the Division and 6th overall.

That is just so impressive.

It sounds like Roenick is starting to feel better. The real telling factor will be what the brain stem tests tell. I suspect if his stem has been damaged, or thinned he will hang them up.

If not, JR will be back.

I know he's had 9 concussions, but his situation is very different from Lindros. Eric gets bumped the wrong way and he's out for weeks/months. Every time I've seen JR take a concussion he's been destroyed. Anybody would get a concussion in that situation.

There is sheilds that come with covers for the jaw. Look how well Thorton is playing with the cage. The game has changed with these sticks and the juiced up players. Somebody will eventually die from puck blasted into there grills.

My father suffers through Crohn's Disease "episodes" every few years, and he's going through one now (name me the former Flyer who also had this disease - that's a pretty easy one). It started around Thanksgiving, when we learned he had a perforated large intestine caused by weakened intestine walls. So the doctor put him on a no-food diet (IV and water only) until Christmas, hoping the intestine would heal itself. Well, it didn't, he lost 20 pounds, ended up getting sores in and around his mouth, and looked like garbage. He had no energy and everything seemed to be a task. Yadda, yadda, yadda, he found another doctor who immediately put him back on solid food, and though the intestine still hasn't healed, he gained back the weight he lost and can do everything he did before (except lift heavy objects).

ANYWHO, the lesson for me was that having the freedom to eat regularly sure makes a whole heck of a difference. The concussions, on the other hand, sure add a twist to the situation.

I don't know where Panayiotis's "insurance scam" thing is coming from, but I agree with him wholeheartedly on the cage/visor discussion. JR was one guy who openly scoffed at even the use of a visor as recently as this season. Compromise, JR. Compromise.

Honestly though, how often are lack of a shield the reason for a concussion? The broken jaw yeah, but the concussions, that just comes with the business.

That's a good trivia question. Kevin Dineen I beleive. Shayne Corson also has it I beleive.

That's not fun to have. I have a friend who has it and he has episodes too. From what I can tell, it's not fun.

Roenick's injury was really freak, but it's an injury that I'm suprised hasn't happend much more often. The shield wouldn't have helped matters any, but it couldn't hurt.

Roenick return to Philly on hold
2/26/2004
Jeremy Roenick's roller-coaster road to recovery took a bit of a dip on Wednesday.

Roenick was set to return to Philadelphia until results of a second MRI revealed he may have suffered an injury to the circulatory system in his brain.

"They said there are a couple of areas that are of concern to them and they told me they did not want me to travel," Roenick told the Philadelphia Daily News.

"There is damage in there in a couple of areas and they want to know what kind of damage it is. I heard the word aneurysm and I was pretty disheartened.

"I've had better days. It's not good."

Roenick was expected to visit noted concussion specialist Dr. Karen Johnson in Montreal Thursday. Instead, he will undergo a procedure in Phoenix which will see doctors inject dye into his bloodstream to allow the circulatory system in his brain to be scanned.

Roenick suffered a fractured jaw and concussion back on February 12. At one point, he talked about retirement but was showing signs of improvement.

I think im gonna be sick, this has been the season fron hell with the injuries.
poor JR cant catch a break. just when we think and he thinks he had turned the corner we get this latest news.
Primeau cant even ride a bike for 25 minutes and didnt we all think he was gonna miss a game at the most and now we could be looking at mid-march at least.
I do hope Clarke doesnt pull another panic trade.
I think we have the guys on the ice, esp when Rico and Seids get back who can do something. im trying to stay positive as i can with this team the way it is right now

I agree, this is probaly one of the worst developments we have seen in quite a while. I'm glad he's still starting to feel better, but it sounds like we will never see JR skate in the NHL again.

I have to say then I was lucky enough to have seen Preems on Sunday at the carnaval for the hour that he was there, he had to leave in the middle of this photo session because he was feeling ill. Concussion are pretty serious injuries and nobody should take them too easy... I hope that everything with Preems and JR turns out good for their own health....

If he can't return, all the best to JR and his family. so what exactly would our situation be at centre when the playoffs roll around?

1-Handzus
2-Zhamnov
3-Primeau
4-Sharp/Lapointe/Law?
