A trade proposal for Lauri Korpikoski

Oilers fan here. We need a youngish defensive center/forward who is good on the draw and has some upside.

To Rangers: Denis Grebeshkov (we'll replace him with a stay-at-home type)
To Oilers: Lauri Korpikoski + 2nd

Maybe we also take a (salary dump) D-man and we include a forward prospect.

Even if you take out the 2nd rounder it's a no. Korpikoski is a player we need, and Grebeshkov is hardly a commodity.

With Del Zotto and Sanguinetti, we have two excellent, puck-moving defenseman in the system. Sanguinetti will likely be with the team next season (full time), and Del Zotto possibly the following year. We really don't need a defenseman like Grebeshkov--or a defenseman, period.

Korpikoski is a first round pick who looks set to live up to his lofty billing. He's a huge part of our plans for the future, and the chances of him being moved are extremely slim. I'd imagine the only deal he gets moved in would be for a bona fide star scorer.

Korpeedo is far to the Love side of the NYR-Love-Hate scale right now. In order for any fan to be accepting of a deal, you'd have to over pay, significantly.

Fritsche can play both ways and averaged near 50% on the draw while in Columbus, you want him?

I thought about him too, but I'd only offer a 3rd rounder or mid-range prospect. He too similar to our current young defensive forwards: Brodziak and MA Pouliot (decent on the draw, but lesser upside than Korpikoski).

As for Sanguinetti, he's like Taylor Chorney in that they could make the NHL lineup this year (or next), but winning teams shouldn't rely on rookie D-men for anything but bottom-pairing roles. Grebs is already a #4 D-man and has played pro hockey (RSL) since 18.

Grebeshkov is overrated.

I wouldnt do Grebeshkov and a 2nd for korpikoski, let alone korp and 2nd for a very over-rated puck moving Dman which the rangers already have a commodity of (not over-rated but puck moving yes)

The Rangers don't need a defenseman.

if you change the 2nd to a 3rd, swap Grebeshkov for a 2nd, and take Korpikoski out, I would do it.

Again though, the problem with your proposal is that we are completely set when it comes to defensemen. Our defense corps features high-priced talents (Redden, Rozsival), established veterans (Kalinin, Mara), a young stud (Staal) and a steady and still improving youngster (Girardi). We also have 24 year old Corey Potter waiting in the wings, and Brian Fahey as a seemingly solid 7th defenseman should he be needed.

Grebeshkov might be a nice player, but he just doesn't address a need in this organization.

Korpikoski has too much upside and potential to give up right now. Ask again in a year, maybe two.

There are Prucha, Dawes, Rismiller of the world........

If Oilers want Kopi, it better be prospect + 2nd, not us giving them 2nd.

Why not Lauri Korpikoski for Rob Schremp?

or

Anisimov for Sam Gagner

The Rangers aren't going to be making a move unless it clears cap space or nets them a scoring winger. Otherwise we'd just be moving pieces around for the hell of it.

And, honestly, a day after the Rangers tragically lose their top forward prospect, I really don't see them moving one of their better current young forwards with upside that has just made the NHL.

this is the main point.

Rangers don't need defensemen. Not only are there 6 capable NHL defensemen on the squad but two other guys in Potter and Fahey just missed out on being the #7 cause coach carries 6.

So Denis Grebeshkov despite his "upside" he doesn't really fit the program for the rangers.

Actually the main point is the Rangers give up two things they want and need and get back something they don't.

hmm I think that this is splitting hairs, but as long as it results in NOT doing deals like the one proposed in this thread we are in agreement.

rangers don't need another defenseman

nor do they need to trade something they need, that being young forwards with upside for things they don't need (another defenseman)

haha

Your not touching our new 3rd line player, and one of our best pkers.

Tell you what, you can have Petr Prucha and I'll even throw in Nigel Dowze for a bag of pucks and a Zamboni tire.
