Player analysis for game 3 vs. St. Louis

Only saw period 3... Kulemin, Grabs, Tlusty, Schenn and Steen all looked solid.

Kulemin is starting to feel comfortable.

Kulemin played GREAT. Showed nice flashes and if you get the chance, watch his goal in the first, it was pretty nice.

First period, we dominated. Second period, they dominated and Hollweg cost us the lead and is facing atleast a 3 game suspension. Third period, back and forth, goalies played very good. Overtime was the same as the third, anyone could have won but goalies dominated.

Overall, we've had a great game, terrible game and an average game. 1-1-1 record is exactly what it should be.

Wilson is as clueless as Quinn and Maurice in picking the guy's for the Shoot Out.

Haha yea... he has made a few clueless decisions. Blake/Ponikarovsky/Antropov #1 pp unit, raised my eyebrow.

SCHENN, LUKE - Played his best game yet on defence. 2nd in ice time and 3rd start.

COLAIACOVO, CARLO - Played decent BUT is still trying to hard to look for that big hit. I assumed he got that out of his system based on last years play.

HAGMAN, NIKLAS - Played very well tonight. Definitely a top six player for this team for the rest of the season.

STEEN, ALEXANDER
- Someone must have **** in his cornflakes. Laid the body a lot more tonight. Played well offensively.

TLUSTY, JIRI - Played decent.

KABERLE, TOMAS - Played his usual game but as always refuses to shot.

MOORE, DOMINIC - Looked a lot more comfortable in the offensive zone and even rushed it end to end but didn't score.

MAYERS, JAMAL - Actually hit a few players tonight. Still hasn't done nearly enough in the toughness department. Not impressed one bit.

PONIKAROVSKY, ALEXEI - Besides the tip goal. He floated around A LOT and barely even involved himself physically. Typical Pony.

VAN RYN, MIKE - Didn't have a good game defensively tonight with 3 Giveaways.

STRALMAN, ANTON - Looks good once he has the puck but is beginning to scare me without it. He may need Marlie time to fix his defensive woes. Coli went through a similar process early on in his career.

MITCHELL, JOHN - Played well. Got his first point tonight.

KULEMIN, NIKOLAI - Kid looks better each and every game. Wilson has already begun rewarding him with top 6 minutes and a bit of PP time. Next game IMO he'll get a boat load of ES and PP time.

HOLLWEG, RYAN
- Started well by providing a few hits early on. Bone head play by pushing PIETRANGELO face first into the boards.

BLAKE, JASON - Hoped Blake would turn it around this season BUT hasn't duplicated what made him successful in the preseason. Driving hard to the net. Plays the perimeter far too often to be effective.

KUBINA, PAVEL
- Is an OX. Yes I love him and each game that passes he shows me why. Almost 23 minutes ice time, 5 blocked shots, 1 takeaway, 1 giveaway.

ANTROPOV, NIK - Had his best game on the year tonight. 2 assists, +3, Poor on the faceoff dot. Needs to be moved to the wing.

GRABOVSKI, MIKHAIL - Buzzed around all night BUT he needs to start converting a few of these chances. Played almost 20 minutes tonight. Crappy on the faceoff circle again.

TOSKALA, VESA - My boy didn't play well tonight. Had some outstanding saves to keep us in there late BUT overall I would give him a D rating.

Same here.

Hopefully he's not back in because Hollweg is out. White should finally get his chance.

I liked the energy Hollweg brought in the pre-season but it's beginning to look like he'll screw us over more than help.
Kulemin is looking more confident and starting to show flashes of what excited me about him, sounds like he's already getting better at english which should help. Schenn is still looking pretty solid.
I know Stajan hasn't been playing great but it kinda sucks that he's a healthy scratch after not missing a game in the past two seasons.

It's the same weaknesses I was seeing in the preseason. My boy isn't looking good so far.

Defending 101 you don't learn in the NHL. That's done in juniors and/or the AHL. That is what bothers me. They aren't NHL mistakes like Schenn has been making.

Blake and Ponikarovsky are really bringing our team down.

Both make too many bad decisions.

The only analysis I have is that Hollweg is an idiot. He knows he is going to hit these players from behind and does not even let up. How many NYR fans warned us about him and he still continues to do it. I know he is gone for 3 games but I pray when his suspension ends he is stuck in the pressbox. Our PK is way too poor for that fool to be running around like useless idiot.

There, now my rant is done.

Agreed he doesn't seem to learn his lesson.

One of them needs to be taken off the "top line" Wilson seems to like using Blake a lot though.
Maybe switch Poni for Kulemin

Hey carcillo is keeping cool and avoided the penalty box so far...perhaps if get hits people and hits his head a bit then he won't make bone head plays...just saying..

On the shootout-
Antropov Kulemin and Kubina went for the leafs, Kulemin scoring the only goal on a nice move.
Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes both scored for the Blues, Boyes absolutely undressed Toskala.
After the game Toskala said he's not great at the shootouts.
