I think he wore 17 at the WJC, but wore 7 with Omsk.

Dubisnky's number is 17 so it is not retires. 7 is still available. 07 was a default number for everyone in the draft that year(2007). He worse 7 in OMSK.

according to my avatar it's 7 ... I planned to get a Cherry jersey this year before he came over. Now, I want to do it as a remembrance, but I'm not sure.

CHEREPANOV - 07

might be fitting. It would signify that he died too young, and was cut down before he was able to come to the NHL.

he probably would have worn something with a 7 in it, with 7 and 17 not available.

Buy a Avangard Omsk jersey with the number 7 and his name on the back. That is the most appropriate jersey to get.

He probably would've worn #71, basically #17 backwards. #17 is a number used in honor of Russian legend Valeri Kharlamov and popularly used by Russian players. Malkin wears 71, Kovalchuk wore #71 on the national team when 17 isn't available. Cherepanov wore 17 on the Russian National team, so I'll guess 71. Maybe the best bet is a Cherepanov 17 Russia jersey

I was deciding between a Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, or Cherepanov jersey last night (I like Russian wingers =]). I kind of settled on the Chere idea since I could still rep my team.

Feels like it's in bad taste now, and I don't know if I'll still get it. Hardly saw any of the kid.

Malkin or Kovalchuk wear #71 because nobody has ever worn #17 on the Soviet/Russian senior national team since Kharlamov. In any case, Cherepanov wore #17 at the 2007 World Juniors and then #7 in 2008.

If the choice was available to him, what number would he have worn is the question.

I think 17. I'm going to put 17 on my back.

I have an Omsk Avangard Cherepanov jersey as #7.

Ordered it in June via RussianJerseys.com, and got it a month ago.

RIP.
