Great win by Rubin! What a shot by Ryazantsev.

I hope they keep it up.

yeh that first red card was total ********. Once Slovenia scored that goal in the 87th minute in russia i knew russia would lose 1-0 in the next game.

Wow, just wow.

Just complete idiocy by our team.

As usual, they underachieve. It has been a story every year, except for the Euro'08.

why is that negative? He's a great coach though he's the coach of our national team and i don't think he's going to make the switch.

he's a cult hero in Russia (St Petersburgh for the most part) his $$$ will be like quadrupled and he will be coaching a better more talented team. The only thing that concerns me is that he's inclined to like Zenit players...

Actually I guess that was just a rumor.

Kulichki had an article claiming that, but he said that he was never contacted.

I really wouldn't say that, Belgium have a young, golden generation of players coming through right now that is looking really promising. If players like Steven Defour, Axel Witsel, Romelu Lukaku, Toby Alderweireld, Eden Hazard etc. keep developing the right way I could actually see Belgium mounting a serious challenge for a World Cup win in 2014.

If I was a football manager, I'd absolutely love to be the person who gets to work with all those young assets, although you are probably right about the money possibly motivating Advocaat to take over the Russian NT instead.

While on the subject of Zenit managers, how has Spalletti been doing so far and what formation is he using?

Well Russia has some VERY nice young talent also.

I mean, other then Rene Adler, Akinfeev is the best under 25 goaltender in the world.

Plus, Russia is VERY deep in talented attacking players.

Less so on defensive side, but there are some.

exactly, Lukaku for example is only 16 years old (and 1m93 and 95 kg!) and already leading scorer in the Belgian premier division playing on the biggest club Anderlecht, he scored a couple of goals in this year Europa League too.

According to Kulichki (I'm not sure how accurate this is) Advocat is leaving Belgium and might be the coach of Russia.

He resigned today. In a way i'm surprised, yes he can make 5/6 x more money in Russia but i taught the challenge of taking Belgium's talented group of youngsters to succes would convince him to stay the headcoach here....

Well, like I've said, Russia has PLENTY of talented young player also.

With the right structure, this team can be very good.

I guess it's official now. Advocaat is Russia's coach. I hope he can fix it.

glad (that it's not Gazaev, Byshovets, Borodyuk, Semin), not very happy with with Advokat though, just the way he quits his jobs worries me...He's not much known of finding new talents either, but he's a good coach. Let's see what happens...

Kasaev and Fayzulin both had excellent games last weekend and have been impressive so far this season.

I wonder if they might get an invite to the NT, although there is certainly no lack of competition for midfield spots.

I hope Semshov won't get invited anymore, especially not as a starter. He's one of my favorite players, but he isn't the same player anymore.

I'd like to also see Ryzhikov as Akinfeev's top backup. He has been better then either Malafeev or Gabulov.

Advocaat might have a preference to his former players. I expect to see all of the top Zenit players there, including Shirkov.

I'm also interested in the center defense situation. Kolodin isn't playing well right now. I wouldn't put him as a starter.

My personal starting lineup would be:

----------Akinfeev----------

Anyukov--Ignashevich--V.Berezutskiy--Zhirkov

----------Denisov----------

Bystrov--Bylialetdinov--Zyrianov

----------Arshavin---------

--------Pavlyuchenko-----

What do you guys think?

Although I'm not a Spartak fan, I'll be really dissapointed if they screw up in this season of the Champions League. Their current performance in the Premier League foreshadows an upcoming epic fail in UCL IMHO.

Yeah. They seem like our weakest representative.

Hopefully, Zenit can get into a group stage. They are the strongest team in the country imo, especially with an addition of Bukharov.

In the current situation if Zenit won't get to the group stage, then no other Russian team will. Zenit currently steamrolls anyone that gets in the way, in the league that is.

Not a great result for Zenit.

You gotta beat teams that are playing with 10 men most of the match.

They had a lot of chances, but overall - yeah, a disappointment. Hopefully they'll improve in the second leg match, somehow...
