I would really like to see Dynamo Kiev beat Man City. That said the 3 Russian teams will def need to step up their game to go through. They need to be better then the last round for sure. As I said, none of these teams are unbeatable. Personally i think CSKA has the best chance. Can't wait till match day.
Good wins for CSKA and Zenit in the Russian Cup. They'll also be playing the SuperCup on sunday so those are a couple of nice competitive matches before their big games with Porto and Twente.
Now let's see what Spartak will do with Sibir and Ajax. At last Karpin seem to have found a decent and regular first 11.
By the way Shevchenko is now at 66 European Goals. The record is Raul at 71 he might break it soon.
They have about the same goal/game ratio but the greatest in that regard was Gerd Müller with something like 60 goals in 70 goals...
Still Shevchenko should or might set a new record!
I always wonder what the Russian team of the late 90's could have done with Luzhny Kaladze but especially Rebrov and Shevchenko. The team was strong everywhere but up front.
cska is in trouble for the supercup vs Zenit (played in Krasnodar) and the Porto game all the right and left half-becks are injured, interesting what kind of formation are they going to field.
You should be proud of Zenit they still play with a majority of Russians on the field. Cska also very much like Barcelona and Bayern. As long as they are playing with 6-7 Russians I'm very happy and want them to do good at home and in Europe.
I wish there would be more talented Russian young players from top teams loaned to lower teams.
Last year Dzyuba, Yakovlev, Dyadyun and Vasin really benefited from the playing time that they got for lower teams. Hopefully they won't be buried on the bench this season.
I'm looking forward to seeing who will be some of the youngsters that break out this season. Guys like Abdulfattakh, Pomazan, Gorbanets, Pes'yakov, Kanunnikov and Portnyagin should get regular playing time and hopefully develop.
Well CSKA have 9 Russians on their main roster and most of them play. Zenit have now 10 Russians and most of them play except Fayzulin. I hope he goes to FC Krasnodar. This year I think Dzyuba's ready and Yakovlev could play at times. Seriously there's not that many good young Russians sitting on the benches of top teams.
Can you name me a few really good ones who could should be loaned this year?
Well, Fayzulin DEFINITELY needs to get out of Zenit. I mean, he is a good player who might compete for a spot on the National Team. I'm not even sure that Shirokov is a better player then him.
- Vasin will probably be relegated to the bench again.
- In Loco, Tarasov and Glushakov kind of get in each other's way.
- Bukharov probably made a mistake of moving to Zenit.
Wow that was a bunch of nonsense. 2 European Trophies in the last 5 years is pretty impressive. Not many leagues did that. CSKA played well and missed easy chances against probably the favorites. It's not over. Zenit well they've been like that for 3 years in Europe now pretty inconsistant. But like I said Twente is pretty strong team they tied Inter and Tottenham in Enschede this year...But it's not over yet either. Spartak was a surprise but them also isn't over...Russia still has the 5th best league in Europe since 5 years don't worry.

But what a week for UKRAINE!!!
keep drinking that coolaid if it helps, I am happy for you.
i saw the Twente-Zenit game, Zenit controlled most of the play but didn't convert there chances and they had plenty while Twente was sharp in front of the goal
in the Ajax - Spartak game it was the other way around, Ajax controlled the play but missed the chances while Spartak converted
It's one thing to constantly post anti-Russia and stupid comments but please bring on some arguments.
CSKA 2005 Zenit 2008 CHAMPIONS = FACT
Since then only Spain Italy England and Ukraine have won something...
The Russian League has never been that good= FACT
Donetsk and Kiev could do an incredible double also this year= POSSIBLY
Your comment= ???????
my comment is lieague is corrupt, with many fixed games even teams with good roster are not ready for good fair refereeing and other teams fighting them untill the last second of the match.
And no, I will not report you to the mods for your insulsts, as I presume young and dumb is what it is.
I have a question regarding Krylia Sovetov Samara. Recently they signed an 18 year old Canadian, Joseph DiChiara, to a three year deal. I know nothing about Russian football so I am hoping someone here can give me an opinion on the management of this club and its ability to train and produce young players. I am pretty sure he is the first Canadian to be signed by a Russian club, are there many North American players (if any) in the RPL?
He's probably playing with the reserves. Great club great stadium great fans but lacking money right now. I'll keep track on him if I can!
But where was he born? Did he like got sign by Samara while playing in like Winnipeg???????????
